need some advice on this intake

here is the intake and what he posted about it.

GT40 with edelbrock 70mm TB (NIB) and aluminum rails.

Intake is currently bare aluminum but can be painted prior to sale if desired.

now it's bare aluminum

he is asking $650 OBO cdn. Should I get it.

The price seems a bit steep, but if he'll come down under $600, I'd grab it. That's always been my favorite intake for our cars, but I never could find one over the years that was reasonably priced.

Seems pretty pricey look for an Explorer intake on Ebay I got mine for 350.00 with the 65mm t.b.

Those intakes are always real expensive, but you don't see the best gains with them. If I were you I would look elsewhere, unless you are really hung up on the looks of the GT40.

I would get it, that doesn't seem like to bad of a deal with the fuel rails and the throttle body, maybe try to talk him down to 600 CDN. I installed a Cobra intake on my car and made some good gains from it. Now on a high reving engine with some bad a** heads on it you maybe limiting power potential but on a fairly stock engine it should help out a quite bit. If you decide you don't like the intake you could always get your money back out of it.

he sounds kinof firm on his price. I might be able to get it for $600 since he did say OBO....Or should I save up and get a TFS kit. I wanted to try the intake for a year or 2 than but a TFS kit or another kit.

that seems like a lot, but it does look pretty cool though. love the tubular gt40 look. i'm looking for an intake also, but i wouldnt pay $600 for that.

$600 for the intake, throttle body and large volume fuel rails? Jump on it. Most here aren't considering the fuel rails in this deal. A set of high flow rails alone could run you as much as $200-$300 with fittings. Not to mention in a couple of years, you'll still be able to turn around and sell it for a decent price. Then when you decide to upgrade to a more stout piece and start making some real power, upgrading your fuel system won't be such a worry.

well you can get a brand new bbk ssi for around $700 with a tb and fuel rails....( yeah yeah i'm sure everyone's going to say its crap, but some have had good luck with it)

BBK lists it for $750....and then we in Ontario have to worry about our wonderful 8% sales tax, duty and shipping to go along with it.....so tack on another $75-100 for good measure.

That is a very good intake and with a little work, will make great power on heads up through 250cfm.

I would get it, I havnt seen a tubular gt40 go for less than 400 and with the fuel rails you will be breaking even. might as well save on shipping and get all that at once.

so funny thing. They guy sold it to another member on the other board. the guy that bought it messaged me sayin that he lost his job the same day so he needs to sell it. he said 550 no less and he would deliver. I told him 500 and I will pick it up (only half hour away if that) he messaged me back and said the upper was getting painted right now but he thinks I have a deal for 500. SHOULD I TAKE IT.

BTW I think I changed my mind on the TF intake from my other post. This one comes with a few hundred dollars in extra stuff.

If it still comes with everything from your original pics above, go for it. It was a good buy at $600.....it sounds like an even better buy now at $500.

If he hasn't painted it yet though, I'd tell him not to bother. Painting an intake is cheap and something you could do yourself for about $12. But if you really wanted to get creative, you could spend some time polishing it. Something that would take extra long if you now have to strip someone elses old, cruddy, quick paint job that they only did in order to pretty it up for a sale off of it.

yea I will tell him not to bither. But it sounded like he took it to a paint shop to get it painted. Who knows maby it will look awsome when it's done. if not I will strip it and powder coat it or polish it.....or maby both.

For $500, yeah I would take it, but any higher and I would have to pass

Porting will make it nicer for sure, so the money you saved from the original price, you can have it ported to match the heads of your choice at a later date.

You need some pretty hefty power to actually need the higher flow fuel rails, and it did not appear that it will happen for quite a few years.
