here is what I have. rebuilt 01 4.6 block with a cobra crank, manley rods and 11cc dished pistions, stock bore and stroke. MMR 7Q oil pan and windage tray. PP 75 mil t-boby and plenum, bbk cold air. AR Long tubes with catted x pipe, SLP load mount 1's and AJE k-member arms.

Ok I only have about a grand left to throw at it and need it running, what would you get? Was going to use my stock heads for now. Would you send off for Port and polish or leave stock?

Going in a 01 GT 5 Speed. lowred on 18's.

First, what are you lacking to get it rolling? You already have a clutch?
Look at all you have and make sure you are not missing something. Then I would consider cams - you already have PI heads and intake so you are not suffering, don't get me wrong, it can be better but you can upgrade later and cams will make the most of what you have until then.

The only thing I lack is gaskets and a spark plugs. Have 2 sets of PI heads 1set off my stock bottom end and another off a 04 F-150. I was thinking of getting better coils, plugs, shifter and reusing my center force clutch from my old set up.

I would ask what is your goal? Are you sticking on N/A? or do you want F/I? I would get the heads done and a good tune, pending on how soon you need it running. I would try and find a machine shop close by that can do it right. If not, send them off. Cams are nice, but you can easily tie up a grand in new parts for that. I would definitely recommend UCA/LCA's though. They can help to put all that power to the ground. But you can always get that after she's up and running. Sounds like a pretty stout set up you got. Good luck with the build!

Good points rougestang. You should always keep your end goal in mind so you do not do things twice.
That being said though, I would still go for cams. The cams control the personality of the vehicle and changes in lift and duration have great impact on performance. I would almost say that the cams are the brain of the engine but with computer controlled engines that is not entirely true. You already have good ports, valves and intake (not to say you can't get better) but mostly you are looking at clean up with the PI heads, slightly larger valves with a good valve job and a little volume increase. You can always send your spare heads out for work while you are enjoying the car. If you do all your head work first you will still be limited by the same lift and duration - basically a larger hose with the same size hole at the end - granted you may have slightly larger valves but you can get the same or more by keeping it open a little longer. When you do this you will see performance gains but you must focus on your real goal because the law of diminishing returns applies. When you increase the port size you reduce velocity.

Long story short - you got a good build going. Do whichever you want first. You will be doing the rest later anyway, right?

You could sell your PI heads or trade your PI heads to nick @MHS for $150 a pop. Go pick you up a set of MHS stage 1 heads (they have stage 2 porting) and call it a day. (assuming $300 for both sets of heads should put you near 1k).
