I am fixing to get ahold of an '88 4cyl lx hatch that is currently running perfectly with the 5-spd. How hard is it to turn this car into a turbo car using the stock engine? What do I need other that the intercooler, turbo, and header, and piping?

thanks,
Nate

You'll need a turbo motor! You can put all that stuff on a N/A block but the first time you turn up the boost, you'll grenade the bottom end! The cast pistons in the N/A block won't hold up to the cylinder pressures.

Search the junkyards and internet forums for motors out of Turbo Coupes or XR4ti's. They're everywhere and usually cheap. Then, just swap in the turbo motor and be done with it! There are lots of sites detailing the procedure for wiring and other hookups. Good luck!

Red wording? I'm lost here. As for the engine, Could a n/a engine handle about 8-10 lb's. of boost? And in doing the swap, is there anything that I am forgetting on the inside of the car? Better yet since I am way off base in this area........... give me a list on the car to turbo it. PLEASE!!

The red wording is a link to Stinger's website. It's www.projecthp.ford23.com/stingerperformance - It was down a week or 2 ago, haven't checked it since. There was a thread awhile ago about someone (maybe bhuff30) saying he ran 6 or 8 for a while with no problems. It won't last forever though, and you'll only want more once you get 6-8 lbs.

As stated, you can look on my site for details on how to do the swap.

Whether you use your engine or a turbo engine, you have to do all the same work (except for the actual engine swap).
