Hello dear members,

I thought I would take a few minutes to ask fellow mustang lover what theme I should use to Hot Rod my 68 fastback.

As you can see from the picture I have used photoshop to basically design a 70 Boss 302 scheme on the car. The reason for that is that the original plans were to create a Boss engine to put in the car, since then I have changed my mind and stroked a 351w and spent the remainder of what it would have cost me to hot rod the baby. The 427 below the BOSS represents the CID of the new engine.

I would love to go on with the mods on the car but this email should only represents the poll I am seeking on the paint scheme.

Personally, I'd go with something else. It's a totally different body style to adapt to, and looks better on the 69-70 body.

It's cool to go with something different, and the 427 usage is cool. I'd just like to see something other than a ripoff of the Boss treatment. :)

Any suggestions???

Are you just looking to add graphics, or repainting the entire car? Do you want to keep it green? Are those wheels pshopped in? I am not real wild about the boss stripe. Mustang guys will be like "WTF? wrong year."

Nice looking car.

Yes. I suggest you go custom. Whether that means you hire a designer to draw something up, or come up with something on your own is up to you. Personally, I would do some extensive googling looking at different custom paint. I'd look at cars done by designers that you like (Foose and Rad Rides by Troy would be at the top of my list). I'd do all this research and come up with something on my own that was unique. Of course, what do I know? I went with a flame job. :D

You could take some cues from the 1960s and 1970s Trans-Am and Factory sponsored Drag Racing cars and update them to fit your taste.

That's a great idea right there. The blacked out hood/top of fenders look is cool. So is the large center stripe. Maybe black out the tail light panel.

It'd be different too since 67-68 Trans Am cars were coupes.

I have not made up my mind yet on the color. I was leaning towards keeping it factory but I am not restoring this little monster. The wheels are bought and on the car but I do not have a good pic of the car with the wheels on, so I did transplant them with photoshop.... I know what you mean about the WTF that's why I am asking for opinion .....positive or negative.

Another thought I had was to clone the paint scheme off of my 2004 F250 Harley (Black/Grey with an orange pin stripe in the middle). Any thoughts on that one?????????

Can anybody tell me how to use the photoshop program (or morph it for me) to change the car color without changing the reflective contouring of the car???? :bang:

The Harley paint scheme would be awesome. :nice:

Select all the paint (I'd just use the lassoo tool) and go to:
Image -> Adjust -> Hue/Saturation

Play with the sliders, and you should be able to change the color without effecting opacity.

You can also use color masks, google the web for photoshop tutorials and you should find more than you ever wanted.

Watch overhaulin, chip foose paint jobs are awesome maybe get some Ideas there.

Was actually inspired by one of the Overhaulin episode (Gambler 514) but the only stripe design I can use have to go below the air scoop mimicking the 1970 Boss stripping....

Keep the ideas flowing, I will post the result once its all said and done (or if I go crazy with photoshop)

This rendition was my original thought before being inspired by the 70 Boss. Any thoughts???

Crude rendering but the best I could do with my limited knowledge of the program.

You're definately on to something there. :nice: I think the separation of the two tone should be higher. Could you post a pic without paint mods (keep the new wheels though)? That way we can take a crack at it.
