Can anyone make some recommendations for literature on rebuilding/building a 9 inch rear end? I need a book or two that covers everything to do with putting one together and changing gearing. I guess while im at it, if there is any others that you could recommend on anything to do with the 65-66 mustang, please do. Thanks in advance.

The best book that I know is the one you should already own--a Ford shop manual for your car. It is available from just about any Mustang parts vendor. It will answer many questions that you might have about your car.

As far as rear ends, it gives good step by step instructions and lots of pictures of the gears and patterns. A must have. Other than that, there are a few web sites that have useful information for swaps and gear setups. I have the setup literature from Richmond Gears (and a different manufacturer) and found that it really wasn't much better than what is commonly available on the net. The shop manual is by far the best book I have seen on the subject and is what I use.

Unfortunately, even with all this help, setting up gears is still somewhat of a black art. The concept is simple, but the execution can seem painful as the information available will seem quite vague in practice. It can take hours or even days to get the right gear mesh and requires a few tools such as a press and a dial indicator/stand.

This is one job that might best be farmed out to a knowledgeable builder. . . . .
