my T5 went to the crapper and i was looking at the tremec 3550 but i found a t5 with z gears in it i believe that what they called them they said that they are tremec gears should i go for this or no thanks
the t-5z or with "z" gears is the strongest factory t-5 made ( minus g force, etc) it's supposed to handle 330 pounds of torque, as where the late 90's t-5's were rated at around 300.
there are also t-5 z gearsets but i don't think those tranny's have the roller pocket bearing for the input shaft......not sure. there's also 295 t-5's that have a 2.95 first gear, but the rest of the gears are the same.....so you kinda have to watch what your buying...
a t-5 z is a little stronger than the regular world class t-5.....but not alot.
if you have the cash for a 3550 and plan on dragging it at all the 3550 is definatly the better tranny. if it's just a street cruiser the "z" spec is a good tranny for that....
thanks im not sure i think i will drag it eventually just now alot now its pretty much stock right now its 900 for the t5z or 795 for a tremec with a bad second gear that would need replacing
The t-5 is made by Tremec, so technically they all have tremec gears on them.
The Z has a different gearset, has a 2.95 first gear and is made of stronger alloy. I also beleive they come with a Cobra style roller pocket bearing but not sure on that.

yes your correct, about the bearing, although i'm not sure if the "z" gears can be put in a regular t-5 with out the roller bearing or not.......i wasn't sure if he meant it was "z" gears or an actual t5-z......
yeah the gear ratio is 1st-2.95. 2nd-1.94, 3rd-1.34, 4th-1.00, 5th-.63 reverse-2.76.
