Need timing cover gasket help

Alright i've cleaned the block and timing cover off completely not a speck of dirt or anything on either took me a whole day, but have a couple of questions before putting on the new gasket. First is since the oil pan gasket (all rubber) stayed in place should I reuse that or use the one that came in the felpro kit which is two cork pieces and a rubber one for the dip under the crankshaft? If reuseable, i've tried just putting the cover up there to see what happens and every time I do the oil pan gasket moves all over the place, can it be RTV'd to the pan to keep it from moving? Last, when I put the gasket on the cover I was going to RTV it to the cover and wait till it's almost dry and then attach to the block is this the correct approach? I just really want to make sure it's right b/c I have no intention of doing this again.

I had the same questions when I recently did my HCI last July. I reused the factory oil pan gasket and put a liberal amount of RTV on both the pan and also the bottom edges of the timing cover. Be careful not to use an excess amount of RTV, otherwise it could get in the oil pan after you snug the cover up.

As far as the timing cover gasket I put RTV on both the block and the cover. I then placed the gasket on the block and let it set a few minutes before putting the cover on. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help, I finally got it on today. I RTV'd the oil pan gaskets on and waited a while before I took some test runs to see how i'd get it on before I actually siliconed the gasket into place. I never could get it into place correctly though until I finally loosened all the oil pan bolts so that it would drop down a quarter of an inch or so and only then could I get the timing cover back on without a problem. I should have just done that in the first place it would have saved me a lot of time.
