Need To Buy a Holley Carb, Any Recommendations?

Putting together a 347 and need a carb. Want to get some sort of tweaked out Holley 750 DP (4150). Was looking at Bigs Performance, but don't find much feedback on them. For $589, they sell you a new carb with their mods on it and tune it to your engine specs (stage 5).

Anyone used them? Any other recommendations?

How nasty is your cam ? A 670 street avenger will provably do you just fine. I had a double pumper on my 5.0 and took it off. The 670 street avenger worked way better. I've got a factory cam in mine right now but even with a medium sized cam a 670 is provably ok. You can bump up to a larger street avenger if you need more CFM but the avenger is my holly of choice.

I'd have a hard time answering your question within the parameters you present. I had Holleys on my daily driver for 15 years and I'm burned out on them.

There are other interesting choices.

Pretty big cam (580 lift) and highly ported heads and intake (flow over 300 cfm). I am expecting 550 - 600 hp at the flywheel. I will be getting a 750 dp, but I want one that has been reworked. Was just looking for some advice on where to get it. There are a lot of places selling them on ebay and over the web. Don't want to by crap, that's all.

If you are going that agressive then why go with a Holly ? Why not step up to a Demon carb for the extra tuning capabilities ?

What kind of RPM's do you intend to spin regularly? What's your percentage of street to strip? Manual trans or automatic? Stall speed? Gears? You can't just point to a carb and say "that's the one I want!" If it's a street vehicle (nearly ALL street/strip cars are 99% street/1% strip) then you'll be a lot happier with a vacuum secondary carb, and a small one at that. Of course, most guys egos don't allow them to bolt vacuum secondary carbs to what they think is a killer motor, but 347 inches is still a small motor...

Just me, but I'd go with TWO Holley's on that motor. Like twin 390's on the 2x4 setup Mustangs Unlimited sells.

I had a Bigs carb on a much milder 331 (custom SFT cam) and the tune was way off. In your shoes, I would talk to Patrick at Pro Systems. Good reputation. Nice guy. Very knowlegable.

X2, I have 3 of his carbs and will never buy anyone elses again. One of the best in customer service.

Demon is great if you want to tune it yourself, they are always a mile off. Plus BG is junk, their fuel pumps are junk.

I'm currious to know how you going to get 600 hp out off a 347. sound more like 450-500 hp to me.

Id look into quick fuel, unless you really want to spend a good chunk of money for a REALLY good carb, then id go for a C&S specialties.

I've got a DP 650 Holley on my 347. Running 2800 stall, c4 with 3.44 gears, XE 274 cam. Can't get a slight hestitation out of the holley. I'm sure I could eventually figure it out if I was good at tuning. Already changed carb cam and squirters. Although I was not too concerned about gas mileage but the DP sucks it up. Part of the problem I can't keep my foot out of it. . I've recentlty bought a 750 Summit brand with vacuum secondaries. Have not put 750 in yet but thought I'd give it a try.
