need to drain my fuel lines to install a tfs intake

i am installing a tfs track heat upper and lower on a 93 gt and need help drainnig the fuel lines. don't have a manual so don't know where the fuse is or the intertia switch. thanks for any help
 
the inertia switch on my 87 lx is in the trunk on the drivers side. i just have to remove the carpet from the back wall and its right there. very easy to get to, not sure if its in the same place on 93 gt's though...
 
remind me again why you have to drain the fuel lines? i just disconnected the fuel rails and held a rag underneath them, not a lot of gas came out. just unbolt everything and disconnect the injectors and it will come right off with the lower intake then just switch them over.
 
i'm just going by the directions with the intake. they say to cut power to fuel pump and let the car run till it stalls then drain coolant also. i'm new at this and have never taken a lower off.

You're doing the right thing by going by the rules. It is best to relieve the pressure/drain fuel from lines. Like black5.0 said, it should be on driver's side in the back. Having a GT (Hatch), you may have loosen a few panels and pull back some carpet as black5.0 said. It's there. Turn off the switch and start the car as the instructions say. Once it cuts off and you drain your coolant, you're ready to battle with your intake. When you get the TFS on, don't forget to turn the inertia switch back on and press the reset button on the top of it. Good luck! :nice:

take a rag and a flat head screw driver goto the schrader valve put the rag over the valve and press the pin in with the screw driver now your fuel system pressure is relieved.
 
there is no or little pressure in the fuel line when the car is off, other wise the gas goes back to the take. what i did, the two hard plastic like lines under the smog pump that connect the 2 metal lines, i just cut them and went and got two 12in fuel injetor lines and 4 hose clamps and put that back in its place.

Theres a fuel pump shutoff switch in the trunk, theres also a fuse under the hood in the black box by the battery.

I just started the car than shut the fuel pump switch off and than turned the car off.

than take a screwdriver to the schraeder valve, it will squirt just a little fuel. than you can unhook the injectors and a few other sensors than your on your way to taking the upper off.

swap the lowers and reinstall everything you just unhooked. its really easy. I am sure you can handle it.

Sorry, but that just isnt true.. Fuel systems are designed to HOLD psi in the fuel supply line. They do this to allow for faster start-up's after the car has sat for a while. When a fuel system loses its ability to hold psi it will actually cause a long crank/hard start issue, due to the fact that the pump has to build the psi high enough to open the injectors. It may not seem possible, but believe me, I deal with it once every 3 weeks or so.
Kudos for following the instruction's, but I normally open the fuel cap (to allieviate the psi built up in the tank), stuff a couple of rags under the lines, and just pop the lines off (rap a towel around the lines also), the amount of fuel that comes out is minimal it's he spray that you have to watch-out for..
Good luck on the install... P.S. just disconnect the battery(you should anyway, in order to reset the ecu)
 
im serious....chris at Automotive advantage in anacortes told me my fuel line were not fully pressurized when the cars off, so when i cut the lines (cuz i had new ones) just a little bit of gas dribbled out and that was it, they hav even pressureized the system and tested it and said its all fine.
 
What you need to do is install a fuel psi gauge, then turn your ignition run. Watch your fp gauge as you do this, what you should see is a full reading when the pump runs, say 40 psi, then a slightly lower reading when it shuts off, about 5-10 psi less. Once you get that second reading (if your psi completely dropped after the pump stopped running you have a problem), watch the gauge for atleast 10 min. The acceptable drop for most cars is 5 psi, if it's more you have a problem.. Some common problems are; bad fpr's, internal pump malfunction, and leaks (sometimes in the tank between the pump and the outlet of the sender assy... very common with chevy's, its called a pulsator w/gm I dont know what fords name is though)
