Hi guys, well i'm reinstalling my engine/trans this coming week. I'm just wondering if i need/should replace the pivot stud and clutch fork? They are stock parts out of a '91 5.0 with 80k miles on them. THanks!
As long as there isn't any unusual wear, or functional issues with them, I don't see any reason to replace them. They're a wear item, so they need periodic maintenance, but at 80K miles, I can't see them being worn beyond their useful life.
I had 135K on my car when I replaced the clutch. I just did the pilot bearing, t/o bearing, clutch, and pp. I did not replace the pivot ball because it seemed to be in good shape. I just smeared some high temp grease over that.
TIP: Inspect the front bearing retainer around the input shaft. Stock ones are aluminum and wear from the t/o bearing. If it's smooth, you're good, if if is rigded, buy a new one, and upgrade to the steel retainer. They are cheap. Smear some grease over that too, before installing the t/o bearing.
