Need some help on my '65 - 6 cyl (stock). Runs like crap right now and I can't take it any more!! PO put a new carb on it - Holley single barrel - but wired off the choke and thus it was never hooked up properly. Ran fine when it was hot here - this week it has snowed and the warm-up prior is getting tiresome.

He blocked off the vacum line that comes off the choke. I looked for a spot to hook it up but can find any free vacuum outlets. Can I....

1/ Get a "T" junction or some other similar hook-up and cut into the pvc breather vacuum line that goes to the top of the valve cover? Or does this line have to be left alone (i.e. not enough vacum)

2/ There is two vacum outlets at the base of the carb (small ones) that have been blocked off. One says "dist" I think, I forget what the other one says. Can I use these? I took off the rubber blocker to one but it didn't feel as if it had any or enough vacuum.

3/ There is also a metal line coming off of the centre of the exhaust manifold that has been blocked off. It looks like a heat line (not vacuum), is this usable.

I reallly need some help here - thanks all!!

you need vac advance in order to run well at idle/low RPM.

you can get partial vac from the carb base (the ports you mentioned), or full vac from the intake manifold itself. Look for a port in the intake runners (Im not fam with a Six Cyl intake, so you'll have to search). The 'dist' one you see is intended to have a vac line from it to the vac advance can on your distributor. This is a partial vac source.

Dont use the PCV valve, exhaust heat riser, or any other port.

I would try the carb base vac source first. If that doesnt help, use/find the intake manifold vac source, and report your results.

Thanks LMan. Looks like it may help or at least something to try. Am I to understand then that the vac line off of the choke should be tried on this carb base? (partial)

There is also a vac line I found going to the auto tranny from the manifold but I def will try out a few things tonight and report back. Thanks again!!
