Guys I just replaced my alternator and now my damn belt is going crazy!!!! I replaced the belt a few times as well as the altenator thinking maybe the pulley was shot and nothing. I checked the pullies and all are alligned as they should, I have no AC and the privious owner had a pulley installed so I could have sworn I was hearing the whinning from there so I purchased the power stearing pump relocation kit (which by the way is really nice) get a smaller belt 84.5 and still this belt whines!! I have no idea how to cure this problem and I know this question has been asked before trust me I have searched but I have yet to get a clear answer. Please anybody that had this issue and resovled it please share thanks guys

Belt makes noises?

Take the belt off and spin all the pullies by hand. See if any feel rough.

Prob a bearing on it's way out, but you need to ID which one it is.

Have you checked the tensioner? a lot of times when they start to go bad they will actually lean outwards away from the engine causing the belt to run along the edge of the pulleys... I would first start by looking to make sure that the tensioner is properly in line with all the other pulleys..

All good suggestions above. Do you have an extractor hood or could water or something be getting on the belt in some way ? Might try some belt dressing as a last resort, or maybe it's just something unique to mod motors (I'm assuming by your name you have an '01) ?

Yeah I have an 01 and an 89. Problem is with my 89 I did just notice that my tensioner shows out of range. Belt is brand new but I'm going to try and smaller belt see if this helps.

So I guess my problem was the belt.... I saw a diagram on here that showed different belt set ups depending on what your running, and it asked me to run an 84.5 belt and that's what was giving me the problem. I purchased a 83.5 and no more noise all I can here is the exhaust and my stereo so word to the wise whinning belts check your range on the tentioner you might need a new or smaller belt thanks guys
