This is my 3rd Cobra clutch kit in 20 months, today I was on track and tryin get 12s again but nope, first run was 13.2@105 and than clutch start slips, I run 5 more times all around 13.2-13.3 sucks
BUT I have great time, I beat new GTO 6 speed and few other cars
I know this is because my 6000 lanches ,but hey anything below doesn't works on my HEAWY Stang
On way home I raced Z06 from and 40 roll to 125mph and in that time clutch was good and thats rearon why I beat that Vette 1 c/l

OK now question , what is good and kinda cheap clutch for street and strip

Something doesnt sound right if your killing KC clutches like that. I had a ford motorsport HD clutch (same as KB but harder pedal) and it lasted for 5 years and it was still fine when I swapped in my new tremec, but I had to change it since TKO's have a 26 spline shaft. That clutch dead hooked on 430 ft/lbs when i had the nitrous in my car. Great clutch but a touch heavy on the pedal. Im running a mcleod dual friction disk now with a KC pressure plate. I like this combo a lot and the pedal is a little softer. I recommend this combo to you and its not a hard hitting combo like some specs. It'll cost you about $309 from d&d perf, luckily I got mine just before they raised the prices for $279. D&D told me it was a mcleod but it says valeo on it.

I've heard they KC ones suck too. The King Cobra one I had lasted about 6 months with no track time. The Hays Dual Friction one I put in after that was much better.

Something must be wrong, check the cable and quadrant too. My king cobra set lasted me for years on my bad ass 351 86 GT, and on my current 95 cobra. In fact a year ago I burned the crap outta the clutch and messed up the flywheel but the clutch is still going strong. Make sure the cable isn't adjusted to tight causing any premature wear on the clutch. And I'm assuming the flywheel was resurfaced when the clutch was put on.

I have read that the K cobra sucks. Try zoom I have heard good thing from a friend of mine who is running a zoom in his fox.

Spec Stage III handles 600+ HP and can easily handle 6000 rpm launches.

anderson ford motorsports super king cobra its better for higher reving application like your launches if you dont mind spending the money get a SPEC III herd they grab really hard.
PM slvrbullitT76 for information and a cheap price, he has the hook up on them along with flywheels as well.

Ernie, of all the suggestions here the only one I'd go with it GRN92LX suggestion of the mccleod dual friction setup. I, like you, have chewed up more than my share of FMS HD clutches (3 to be exact), our heavy weight kills them. I always like them because they were easy to slip on the launch and were not "grabby" but under a high rpm launch they just couldn't handle it. The funny thing is that I heard this from a number of guys over the years and all were surprised I ran it and didn't have trouble. My troubles only started when I started launching hard. Mine ALWAYS slips on the launch. I can't tell you how many horror stories I have heard AND SEEN with the spec stage 3 clutch, so avoid that at all cost. It will hook, and hold eveything you throw at it, but it will break everything else in the process. I'm running a kustom clutch from Pro Motion and it is along the same lines as the dual friction. I just installed it today, so I can't tell you how well it performs, but my first impression is a VERY good one. I've NEVER heard a bad thing about the dual friction mccleod.

Have a bud that had a 00GT and he had a KC cluch in it and within one year he split it in half, we took the trany. out and the disk had pieces hanging out of the press. plate. HE got a centerforce and bent the input shaft on the t-45.

I plan on getting a spec stage 1, within a week or so, and they are on sale right now for 169ish on there website, and they are rated at 400hp.

Another vote for the Mcleod. My Uncle runs one in his 01 GT and its pretty awesome, grips like a mofo.

I honestly wouldn't consider a King Cobra a drag clutch. The FMS HD, which I currently run, IS stronger, but I would still be leary about high RPM launches. Both are essentially stock replacements, the HD one beefier, the KC has 5 percent less pedal effort.

Well looks like mine don't slips that much just cant spin tires in 3rd and 4th anymore , but still 3rd KC in 20 months

I was told that valeo was the original manufacturer of the ford clutches , and also makes a bunch of other brand names as well??? I used the upper end zoom in my 95 which was made by valeo it worked really well but again not something that would probally be considered a drag clutch. I have a mcleod in my old dodge powerwagon and it has by far out performed any other clutch i had in there, the big block 383 and 34 inch tires plus 4.88 gears and alot of offroading ate clutches for lunch but this one has been holding up great. Valeo thats what I got in my Stang when I bought car, some HD , release bearing was bad so I replace with KC, man that clutch pedal was stong , even for me, I had pain im my knee

Tell me about it, that is all I have ever ran in my car! Yesterday when I drove my car for the first time with the new clutch I about put my left foot through the floorboard as it was so much lighter than my old setup. Valeo makes TOP NOTCH stuff, you will find them everywhere. They are an OE manufacturer too.

That is what it was like driving my 93 compared to the hydraulic 2000...worlds of difference...my 93 makes my 2000's clutch feel like Jello... I actually had to relearn the clutch feel on the 2000 after driving the 93 for just two days...

I made a thread about the spacer and the resurfaced flywheel and they said as long as your flywheel hasn't been resurfaced more than once that it is perfectly fine to go without a spacer...you just make up the "thousandths" difference with a firewall adjuster...I just dropped off the flywheel to get it resurfaced about 2 hours ago...I'm bout to pick it up and finish my clutch install...been waiting since Saturday...

Valeo is one of the largest manufactures of clutches. If your Mcleod says Valeo on it, they are probably reusing a stock pressure plate for the application. Most stage 1 and 2 clutches just reuse the factory pressure plate regardless of manufacturer. Centerforce, and Hayes always reuse the factory pressure plate, but Centerforce just puts a line of stupid weights on it.

Doing 6000 rpm launches may be too much for that clutch. I never had any trouble with my King Cobra, but I wasn't launching at 6000 rpms. It might be time to step up to s SPEC 3 or something like that. I have already blown one of those up two though. They are not indesctructable, but they have dramatically improved the design over the one I blew up.
