well i purchased a new mac cold air intake and come to find out today i was telling a friend at work about it and he tells me that i need to oil my filter something about it not being pre oiled does anyone know about this? read the installation instuctions don't say anything about pre oiling the filter does he know some thing i don't??

The filter should come pre-oiled.....what it is, is K&N makes a filter recharger kit I think it's called...It's a cleaning kit for non paper filters such as your MAC filter....you use this cleaning kit when your filter is dirty instead of throwing it away.......you can get it at your local part store, I think it costs about $12 but will last you for a very long time......

yeah thats what i thought its a mac air filter but looks exactly like my old k&n filter same color and every thing. i all ready had a k&n filter cleaner i was going to clean my old filter yesterday when i found out that their was chaffing from the body of the car had damaged my filter so i went to performance store and ended up buying a whole cold air intake

The oil used by K&N and other imitators is RED in color. Thats how quality control can easily check them before shipping!! If you filter was white, which I seriously doubt, then it needs oiling. K&N always sends wrapping which says pre-oiled. Mac uses it own replica filter which should be red, but may not indicate that it was indeed oiled. Hope this helps.
