New Baer brakes, not working so well

Might want to upgrade to a SN95 booster, gut the stock prop valve and add on an adjustable prop valve.

Then you'd be prepared to add rear disks. Since the baer kit is basically a Cobra disk brake kit with baer logo and upgraded rotors you could add a cheap SN95 rear disk setup.

now that i 've read his post for the 3rd time, does baer sell there kit for only $1300?
i thought it was more like $2300

Why spend the money and not upgrade the rear? You need to call Baer and get the rear kit. I wouldn't go with SN95 when you already have baer in the front. Get a good MC and a booster while you're at it too. Everyone knows this is an expensive upgrade.

Im sure he spent only 1300 for a reason...otherwise im sure he would have done the rear brakes too. But the fact of the matter is that even a 2 piston PBR 13" combo should brake a lot better than stock!! I would suggest bleeding the system again. I agree with mustang5l5...there is really no point in spending all the money on a bear rear disk setup. All of the upgraded technology is in the front...stock SN's stop like $h/t too!!!!

My bad,, 2 piston calipers. Baer 'Track' front kit. The master cylinder appears to have 2 ports as there are 2 lines connected to it.

I only bought the front kit for a couple of reasons. There should be a substantial difference from the stock brakes, and at this point there isn't. I don't see a need to get the rear kit as I should see a noticable difference in performance with the front kit.

I agree on the Booster too as he said the Brade Pedal is Stiffer than Normal. The Stock Booster with big Brakes feels like stepping on Concrete.

The rear kit is a toss-up. I mean the front calipers are the same dual piston PBR's that Cobra's, Mach 1's and Bullitts all get...just with the Baer logos.

The rear Baer kit is a Corvette 12" setup with a single piston aluminum PBR caliper with custom brackets.

If you go SN95 you just an 11.65" rotor and iron Varga caliper. The performance differences between the two kits are negligible. There is a 1/4" difference in rotor diameter and maybe you save 1/2 pound in unsprung weight. Plus the SN95 can be tailored to two offsets, so the excuse of running wider axles doesn't hold weight really. You can suck them in for 9" or 10" wide wheels or leave them out to fill the wells with 8" wide wheels.

WHat's the price of the baer rear kit? $1500??

An SN95 cobra kit is

$175 for axle bracket + rotor kit
$220 for calipers
~$200 for axles.
$40 for soft lines from NAPA

That's a little over $500 for brand new hardware. Go used and it will be even cheaper.

Wow!! props on someone finally getting it right. Now can you tell us the years of corvettes that caliper is from?

Aren't both from the later C4 years??? 88+

I know the front 13" PBR style with the round holes for the pad clips appeared on C4 vettes. Unsure if the rear baer brakes are C4 or C5.

Technically Baer brakes really are just Corvette brakes when you think about it.

Fronts are 88-96 corvette / 94 & up Cobra
Rears are 88-96 corvette

Yes, as far as the calipers and rotors go, they are vette brakes.

Well,, it's been a while and this message is most likely insignificant. After driving the car for a while the brakes must have 'broken in' and began working wonderfully. I've already gone thru a set of pads in like 5K miles.. LOL! (Offensive driver here,,, Get out of my way!!)

I want to say 'Thanks' to everyone that contributed. I really appreciate all of the advice, information, input, and yes even opinions. I'll be starting a new post about my current issue that I'd like to resolve,,, crankcase ventilation/catch can solution.

Thanks!

And what ... 2 yrs from now you'll tell us that it wasn't
crankcase ventilation/catch can
but your gonna start a new post about antifreeze water and your radiator?

I just got done instaling a 93 cobra booster on my 90 and it made a big difference. I used baer brakes in the front and 98 cobra brakes in the rear, I had no power assit with the factory booster. I thought about going after market hydroboost but that was alot of money so i went with the cobra booster, it was a tight fit.

I bought the complete Baer system 8 YRS ago, (Touring and Track) but never tried to mix and match the Baer with the Cobra's, and in 8 yrs and about 26K later I haven't had to replaced a thing yet.

I've got the baer brakes track kit and it has MONSTEROUS stopping power and consistency when compared to the stock fox brakes. I'll admit that it's nothing exotic in this day and age, but even back in the day, noone heralded the fox brakes. They have always sucked, and there just isn't a comparison to the Track kit especially with good pads, tires, and fluid. Never any fade, never any pedal flutter in my car that has been on road courses, on R-compound tires with repeated stops from 100+mph.

If it isn't stopping as hard as the stock brakes, something is wrong. So unless there is a defect, don't blame the product.
