I just finished installing new pads and rotors on the front of my '90 5.0 hatchback. The inner and outer wheel bearings were in great shape, so I carefully removed them out of the old hubs, packed them with grease, greased the hub and spindle, and re-installed them. Everything went in great.

I went to season the rotors and bed the pads today. Initially I could hear some slight rubbing of the pads against the rotors which doesn't seem all that ridiculous since they're both new and weren't yet broken in as a unit. I went through the seasoning and bedding process. After the first couple slow-downs for seasoning the rotors the rubbing sound went away.

But, I still get this slight rubbing sound when I turn the wheel more than about 15 degrees in either direction. I don't get any feedback through the steering wheel, the brakes, or the suspension. And it's not a grinding sound, just sounds exactly like new pads on new rotors.

Will this eventually just wear away after the brakes get used over the next few hundred miles? Been a few years since I've done new brakes (on my other car), but I don't recall this happening anyways.

I took everything back apart today, checked the spindle nut, greased the caliper guide bolts/pins, and finally spun the rotor with the caliper off.

It was the damn dust shield. Bent the bottom portion of it back/inboard towards the car and it's fixed. Test drove it and it's quiet as can be.
