New Brake upgrade on Stock GT

I have 72K on my car and think its about time to replace the rotors / pads on my brakes. I have replaced the pads before, but I am thinking about buying a new setup for my car. I do not want to spend a ton, but I am thinking about power slot rotors for the front and back and getting hawk brake pads. Should I look into converting the fronts into the Mach 1 / Bullit setup? Are power slot rotors good to have? Do they warp like regular rotors so are you SOL when that happens and have to buy new rotors instead of turning the normal ones?

I want something better than stock...I want a reliable brake setup without braking my bank! I think I am going to get the rotors, pads and the stainless steel lines.

get the cobra/mach1/bullitt upgrade with some hawk pads.... get the power slots later.

Powerslots really won't help much.

Just buy the 13" upgrade and call it a day. No need for Hawl Pads either, the stock PBR pads are pretty good

Do the Cobra/Bullitt/Mach1 brak eupgrade. Good brakes and low price. They also look pretty damn good...Can't lose no matter what

That kit sounds good except what should I do for the rear brakes? Should i get power slot and pbr pads for the back? I assume if I get that Mach 1 Kit I will also need to get the pads?

For the rear brakes, just leave em alone. Unless you plan on road racing there is really not a dramatic difference. To install the rear CObra brake setup you need to pull the axles out.

Just get some Hawk pads for the rear to try to balance out the braking somewhat.

The Mach 1 front kit already comes with PBR pads. I just installed the kit a few weeks ago. Works great.

Where can I get some new stock rotors then and just the PBR pads? Also, is ATE blue brake fluid good to use? Is the new brake lines Stainless steel or are they rubber like stock? Mustang 5L5, where did you get your kit from?

www.stangsuspension.com they have great prices! Go with a mach 1 caliper (plain jane, paint it whatever color you like!) then brembo 13" rotors, and maximum motorsports steel braided lines That's what I got and I LOVE it!!!

I have OEM style cobra big brakes in the rear, too. Great stuff! I think I need new rotors out back though, the guy I traded my cobra stuff with had a sticking E-brake and wore down the rotors waay more than they should be.

Oh yeah, use the coupon code Stangnet on stangsuspension for some mucho percentages off (I think I got all my stuff for like $380~something after shipping (this INCLUDES braided lines!!!!).

It was $340 shipped with stainless lines.

I painted the calipers red since the plain calipers were too plain for me.




As for the rear, go with Brembo rotors out back. They are $34 each from tirerack.com.

For pads, unsure if PBR makes rear Pads for the Mustang considering the rear calipers are made by Varga. You might have go go with Motorcraft OEM pads. I wouldn't run cheapo parts store pads or they will squeal, even with proper anti-squeal lube. Been there, done that.

I would recommend against the Hawk pads, Ive heard nothing but squealing issues from them. Go with the Cobra/Mach 1/Bullitt kit from buyfordracing.com It looks great and performs great. If you dont feel like shelling that out, buy some stock pads, brembo blank rotors, and stainless brake lines from stangsuspension.com They are great to deal with.

I got the Bullitt calipers from BuyFordRacing, used the stock pads that came with them, used my existing braided lines, painted the rear calipers to match and got Powerslots from Tire Rack. The front upgrade is great and fairly cheap, and like it was stated before the rear upgrade isn't really necessary inless you have some pretty hardcore plans for it. As for the Powerslots I have had no issues with them and they have really been abused . If you're looking to save a few bucks this is where you can do it by just getting plain rotors (slotted doesn't give much of a performance gain, it's more cosmetic). Finally you had mentioned the ATE blue brake fluid...once again, no need unless you're going to be pushing you're brakes MUCH harder than regular driving.
