The Car
I have a new toy to play with it’s a 95 gt with an areomotive fuel system, 8 point cage through the floor sub farm conn., D&D k member, a-arms, coilovers w/ Lakewood 90/10, Manual rack, The rear has D&D anti-roll bar, coilovers Lakewood 50/50, 8.8 w/ axle tubes welded, 31 spline Eaton , 3.73, 31 splin axles, Team Z uppers and lowers. The tranny is a PA C4 with trans brake sfi bell housing and PI 9” 3800 stall converter. Right now I am putting in a 306 and running it with a 150 shot just to get it up and running,

The plan (make a nice bracket car and in a few years go heads up)
I would like to hear some of your thoughts on putting a big block in the car . I could go with a built 331-347 and SC or go with the frpp 514 and run a small shot or even stay efi and put a blower on the 514 create engine looks good but what kind of power can it handle is it maxed out or is it still got plenty left in it how strong is the block ????? Has anyone run the 514 if so out of the box what kind of 1/4 mile times did it put up. I am looking a relible way to run in the 10's with out haveing to replace parts

i would go with the stroker route personally.

get a nice block for the stroker and run alot of boost and 10's should be pretty easily attainable with your suspension.

not familiar with the 514, sorry cant give an input on that.

The 460 is a strong block. I think that there is a lot of HP left untapped in that motor. A cam swap would probably wake that motor up. They are somewhat conserative from FRPP. The FRPP 393 ran about .3 faster than my car which has a 351.

The 460/514 should be able to handle a 150 shot as is.

To make sure, you should call FRPP and ask them.

I believe they make 600 flywheel HP. 3200lbs and a good driver and some hook make for a 10.70 car if that is the total weight.

Add up the cost and see which one is the way to go. I think that it will be hard to beat the 514 for a strip only car.

8000 for 625 hp. Heads intake, cam, oilpan, dist, etc. Add carb and exhaust, suspension run 10's. Sweet deal if you ask me.
I have been daydreaming about a big motored street car. Now if I only had some money...

i think the 514 is the way i am leaning, at 625 on pump gas and all motor for under 8K, is the 460 block ford uses 2 or 4 bolt and what it the limiting facter in the 514 as it comes from ford , i wonder if i go the 514 route and and later want to step it up with a power adder how far can it safely be pushed ??

The FRPP is a 2 bolt block. I dont know what the limits of the big block are. There are some big block specific sites out there. bigblockfox.com is one of them, but the forums on there are very rough.

Kidott used to post on here and had a 429 in an 84. I have searched before and today but could not find any of his posts? Search engine issues, I guess. Possibly you could look him up and email him. He is on the coverpage of bigblockfox.

the big block can handle 800HP easily, I'm doing a 4-bolt main conversion on mine that will bump it to 1200HP... but I've never heard of a BB block failing..

the FRPP crate engine isnt bad, but you could probably build a better one cheaper.. I'm doing a 557 for my 68... the FRPP engine comes with hyper pistons..

go to http://www.network54.com/Forum/85220 , alot of good tech..

if you go with a stroker kit, talk to brian at http://adperformance.com/
cool person to work with..

M-6007-D514 does have forged pistons and rods, the crank is cast, but I know of some who use a cast crank making at least 900hp n/a with no problems. It also has Jon Kaase SCJ heads which can be ported for better performance. The word at the PRI show this month is there will be a forged crank available in 2005, also Ford may be coming out with a new head that is suppose to be better than the SCJ's.

I knew guy at the track that went the 514 route in an 86'. I believe all he did was take it to a tuning shop and the end result with race fuel was consistent low 10's. Pretty damn fast for a custom tune and all engine :nice:

The 429 block came in the 4 bolt variety as a boss engine. The 429 has the same dimensions as the 460 and thus can take the same stroker kit, etc. The 460 is a newer block than the 429, so you can bet it is probably stronger all the way around. Unless you are looking to make some serious power, you are ok.

Not to split hairs, but the ford motor is now a 520 thanks to a very slight overbore. A 528 is obtainable with a .060 overbore.

Come January a large group of the big block forum members are getting together and bringing all the different blocks for such things as, record foundry markings, casting numbers and date codes, sonic check, weigh and hardness test them to determine which is the best. Here is a list of the 429-460 block that Ford produced. You can also add the A460 Motorsport and the 4 new blocks available from IDT.
