New Cars Are Dumb

Meh on new cars. I briefly owned a 2015 in 2016 and got rid of it. It wasn't the fastest thing out there (compared to a Demon for example), it doesn't handle all that great (it's heavy), and I wouldn't really call anything about it 'refined.' It sure did have a lot of touchscreen crap though, but I wasn't looking for an iPad with crap that goes out of date or breaks before I've ever used it -- I wanted a car. Plus it sucks ass on the crash ratings I've heard.

To make matters worse, my '78 II got me more pu&$y and I'm practically a grandpa. And 40k was a house payment in my day you whipper-snappers. A turbo pushrod 5.0 can outrun a NA Coyote all day long in a straight line.

In my day, cars were about chicks. A flashy colored rust-bucket will get more attention from the girls -- guaranteed. Fast was for the pride. Refined is for the ladies, and I'm not sure why anyone looking for 'refined' would buy a Mustang of any year. The young generation needs to stop eating so much damned soy - it's got your priorities all messed up.

I don't even know what the hell my point is. Carry on and do what makes you happy.

Well at least you got that off of your chest.

I hope you all realize how hard it was to write that....dag on autocorrect. Imagine when your car starts auto correcting you...y'all won't be able to have any fun.

You've never gotten into a car where the outside temp on the bank reads -15.
cause if you did.....
a pair of booty heating seats are straight outta heaven.

Especially when you can hit a button on your fob and Prewarm those booty heating seats from your cozy living room.

Technology is great, don't fear it. It's the paying for it part that sucks.

Last I saw...they didn't put heated seats in non leather interiors.... I don't like leather seats....so.... Hot in the summer and cold in the winter. They wear out and look like pooh pooh.

I don't have those problems out of fabric seats....and my &$$ isn't sensitive.

Its the fixing and paying for it parts that suck. All that new dangle stuff will break. When it does after 10 years....good luck finding a replacement.

Electrical problems are running rampant in the newer used cars. ..they're out of warranty so the manufacturers don't care.

The only way I'd buy a new car is if I have an extended warranty that covers bumper to bumper through the whole term of my loan. There'd be no thought of modding it. When the warranty was out....I'd buy another new car and do the same....but at that point its kind of stupid to actually buy a new car. Without planning to own it a lease would be the better option.

I'd lease a new car.....there's no way I'd attempt to own it.

We didn't need no fancy heated seats back in my day, you just took off the saddle. Boom, your seat was heated. And we didn't worry about pot holes either, you just stepped over them. You kids today don't know good it was back then.

Yeah,..while I'm not a big fan of an S550, I'd be willing to bet that:
It handles better than any other Mustang ever built before it.
Sync-3 is one of the best user interfaces in any car out there..( Excepting BMW of course) technology that allows you to talk to the car instead of poking a touch screen, turning a knob, or jabbing buttons makes for a safer driving experience. If you're safer,...we're all safer for it.
A Dodge Demon is an apple, a Ford Mustang is an orange. And... "heavy?"...Demon is short in dodge speak for 2 tons. " How much you think that car weighs?"....."Demon"

And..we even won't talk about what caliber of women may, or may not have been enamoured by a 1978 MII

Show of hands. How many people remember loving their brand new EFI Mustang and having old timers bash it because carbs were able to be tuned and they didn't have all that computer crap that was going to go bad any day when you least expect it.

Forget about Demons and Hellcats; you will never be able to buy one. I guarantee my Mustang will out perform a new Mustang in every category (exept possibly a crash test), and I don't have to sit inside the most horrible plastic throw back interior ever made.

I have a Sync 3 in my new car. It's nice to have, but it's definitely a piece of :poo: at the same time. I was sitting in my driveway, and searched "Autonation Collision Center." It was bluetoothed to my phone, in range of my wifi, and has Sirrius sattelite radio (trial period). For those counting, that's 3 data connections, and two GPS receivers. Guess what, it couldn't find the place. If I type into my phone, it pops right up. Apparently Google maps is not always Google maps. So I have to type the address from my phone into my Sync 3. And people think we are soon going to have cars that can drive themselves when they can't even figure out the destination yet; it's absolutely delusional.

I remember when the old guys complained about all the efi stuff....I remember when the guys my age complained about obd2 stuff.

I'll tell you one thing for sure. A microprocessor only lives through so many cycles. The good thing about the fox mustang is that when the capacitors start leaking there are other options available. There's only one brain in the car. The wiring harness can be tackled in a long Saturday.

These new cars aren't like that. Sure you an swap something else in the body...but what will make all the modules talk to each other. That system will be expensive as hell.

Its funny how you still see cars and trucks from the mid 90s back....but how many vehicles from the early 2000s do you still see on the road ?

As things get more complicated the average Joe won't be able to keep up. I embrace technology at work. I have the highest fixed correctly score in the shop.
I'm actually going for my Master Hybrid ASE certification as we speak....and I already hold 10 other certifications through ASE. I stay up to date with tech training and stay abreast of new stuff coming out.

These cars are getting over complicated. Its not the same as comparing carb to efi. That would be like comparing Atari to XBox1.

Companies have been trying to get rid of steering shafts....and hydraulic brakes for years. Can you imagine controlling the car by potentiometers in the gas, brake, and steering wheel. That makes it impossible to manually over ride the system.

This is especially dangerous when the limp strategy usually means loss of power or full shut off ( regardless of where you are or what you're doing ).

We've had cases where start stop systems have not started after stopping. We've had people loose total power on highways in traffic. Don't forget the Prius issues....and the Jeep issues. Don't forget the Challenger issues with cutting off in traffic. Don't forget the spontaneous air bag deployment GM has had lately.....Mercedes active suspension problems....BMWs carbon issues from direct injection....or the huge list of electrical issues plaguing these new cars. Sure....enjoy your new car....but watch what happens after 10 years....I bet you can't just go buy a radio and replace that sweet little touch screen.....You could but a bunch of stuff won't work anymore. Chryslers radios are modules in themselves..

Manufacturers are trying to patent their own computer codes so people can't get access to the critical systems without their knowledge and verification.

Its like Book face employees not having book face accounts. I work on this stuff....I know the other side....

Y'all can have that crap.

Not to burst your bubble, but a rebuilt ECU is cheaper than a rebuilt carb these days. Solid state will always outlast moving parts.

I had to double check who posted that rant. Sounded like this other guy that has been kinda ranting lately..
I'm deeply offended by that comparison...I have never given the pinto that they called a Mustang credit for anything,....except to become recyclable material for the future Mustangs to follow.
