New clutch finally broken in, now I have a ?

I babied the clutch for 700 miles to break it in. Now, two months later, I have three other guys in the car and I do a little burnout. Next thing I smell clutch. When I'm by myself, it doesn't happen. What's the deal? Any ideas?

1. Added weight makes it harder for the pressure plate to hold the disk and the flywheel

A month from now we read an ad in a local newspaper

"For Sale: Fox Mustang, 5.0 5sp, runs great, can burn out with three other full grown men in the car ... needs clutch $2500 OBO

Is there a new flywheel too? The break in for a flywheel vs a clutch is different.

What is the engine/drivetrain situation? Should you be slipping a clutch (I.e. organic disk) before breaking tires loose, etc? (In other words, is the clutch [properly] the weak point in the drivetrain?). Sorry to ask, but we dont have a lot of info to go on here.

Your disk simply might still might be gassing.

The flywheel was resurfaced but not replaced. Earlier today I did a rolling second gear burnout and I got the smell a little. It did not feel like it was slipping. To my knowledge, a clutch only burns when it's slipping. Is that correct?

Yeah, smell normally equals slipping, but it is not horribly unusual to notice some smell when getting on it. Clutches cant lock up 100%.

As we let the thread go, I bet some folks post that their clutches 'smell' when they get on it pretty good. I would not freak, as it does not sound like it is burning much.

Just like with brake pads ... you take it easy on them for the first few hundred miles.

thanks guy, how much did they take off of you flywheel? it may be too small if they had machine a large ridge out of it. i actaully had the same problem in a truck...... but i know how the beating the **** out of you clutch card goes

LOL Now that's a good post I didn't think about taking too much material off the flywheel -def something to consider.

My car only make 242hp at the wheels and 285lb/ft torque. I have Spec Stage 1 so I didn't think I could possibly dog the clutch with my power. Even with the extra weight in the car.
