I actually bought an Audi with the sport package, and 17" wheels over the non sport with 16" wheels 100% based off looks. It rides harsher, has wider tires, lower so it performs worse in the snow etc... but in the end the regular version looks terrible and the sport looks great, IMO.

I sacraficed a little to get a lot in my eyes!

i got ya beat on the drive to work, i can peddle a bike and get there just as fast as if i drive, just sucks to ride a bike home from work after i pack drywall all day. my drive = less than 1 mile.
the wife will be the one driving whatever we get. she's a sub teacher and usualy drives about 40 miles round trip.
boss told me today that he would sell me his 09 Xb wit 9k miles for 15,5. it was about 18 new... 160 horse, 30mpg and a curb weight of 3080. hmmm

The fusion isn't a bad little car either and the v6 also comes with a 6 speed auto...

Is that the "Merlot Clearcoat Metallic" paint? Mine is the same color. BEAUTIFUL in the sunshine. I didn't go with the V6 for gas prices and insurance costs, but I would have loved that dual exhaust.

I just HATE that most companies don't offer their top of the line cars with manual transmissions. The TL is coming back with one maybe in '10, the Mercedes E class doesn't offer one, the CTS dropped it, the A4 doesn't have one until '10 maybe, and the A6 hasen't for years, the 5 series BMWs have them, but getting rare. I'm unsure if the G37 offers a stick and if they do, not with the AWD.

I don't know why everyone is so lazy and drives auto.

BTW before I get reamed I have a 60 mile round trip to work, and drive a MINIMUM of 200 extra miles a week for meetings, site visits, etc... Usually 300-400 extra miles. I LOVE having a standard even with the huge amount of driving I do (30K miles in less than a year and a half on ONE of my 3 cars).

I DO prefer auto in the truck though. I only drive it when towing, and for anyone who has had 10K lbs hanging off the back of a truck in front of the water (when launching the boat) they too would most likely prefer the ease of having an auto.

100% agreed...

Althought my DD is an auto (jeep cherokee) my next car i'd prefer a manual They may be slower cars, but there is nothing like banging gears!

aar0s, if you hop on a bike to get to work... you just turned into 200 points for me in my car. hehe.
25th, I totally agree with an auto in a truck. When I bought my 4runner I test drove the manual. It was neat but totally unnecessary for what I wanted. It is just that much easier... unless it's a lightning or something along those lines.

With technology today, automatic transmissions are getting better and better. Americans like to eat/drink/talk while they drive, and driving a manual is more effort and responsibility than most are willing to give.

I love to drive stick, but I have no desire to have one in my DD. How many times have you spilled your drink trying to shift through a turn? I only have two hands, and I'd rather give up the knob than give up my coffee. Besides, do I really need a stick in a FWD sedan that makes 160HP? If anything, a select shift auto would be fun for when I wanted to play, but there are times when I just don't want to deal with it.

Honesyly, I would NEVER give up my standard. I actually have perfected the one handed driving in the car. Cup holders are for when your steering, shifting and drinking... To me it's a biproduct of the world getting lazier and lazier.

I will say this, a 160hp FWD sedan can be "fun" when your banging through the gears, toss and auto in it and to me it's just boring. I had fun with my 100 hp 93 Mustang with a 5-speed, had no fun with my Jeep Grand Cherokee (auto) even though the Jeep was a few seconds faster in the 1/4 mile.

No stick with the AWD, but they will offer a 7-spd auto with paddle shifters.

I have the 5-spd in mine, and it's actually nice in Manumatic mode. It rev matches the downshifts perfectly do if you click from 4 to 3rd, the engine RPM's jump but you never feel the car lurch. I've been driving almost exclusively in manual mode.

I hear the 7spd version will be even better and offer quicker shifts and downshifts.

Of course i always love a good clutch car, but i thought i'd be bored with my automatic...and yet i am not. Today's slushboxes aren't like they used to be.

Oh I know the new autos are fun, and in most cases faster and better than the stick shifts, but I'm weird in that almost every time I drive I find myself hitting a few gears. I just feel like the stick shift almost keeps me sane, whether in traffic, bad mood, or good mood!

Never tried a paddle shift car, but I'm sure I will!

My girlfriend's dad just recently picked up a '05 Lexus (don't ask me what model- between BMWs, Mercedes, and every other company that "names" their cars by a letter/number combination, I don't even try remembering what its called), and let me drive it the day he brought it home, and without going with me, even!

Needless to say I went right to using the select shift (or whatever Lexus calls it), and I'm SO USED to yanking the shifter backwards during the 1-2 shift, that I did it in the Lexus, LOL. Yea, it just stayed in 1st and bounced off the rev limiter, haha.
