new EGR delete tip!

Everyone knows that you need to keep the plunger depressed half way to avoid the CE light. I was looking around the carhole last night for something that would work and...

Take a Beer bottle cap. Bend it in half (like a taco) stick the plunger end in the taco's opening and duct tape the taco down Where the edges of the cap meet the plunger housing. This will keep the plunger in the half-way position.

To be clear...This is all about EGR deletion, so assuming that you CEL is due to the deletion of your EGR from the intake manifold...

The EGR assembly that you removed from the manifold has a sensor attached to it. The sensor is the part that pluged into the wiring harness and is attached to the assembly by three small bolts. Remove the three bolts. You will now see a plunger that moves in/out. Use some method (like the taco method above) to keep the plunger half way and plug this sensor back into the harness, just wire tie it out of the way...no more CEL.

I just have it wedged against the firewall. Seems to work fine. It's only popped out once, and that was probably due to me messing around in that area.

I used the same method as RIO with the hose and wire nut.

i used the rubber hose from the AIR delete

dont know if its going to work yet because i'm still working on the car

i used a piece of nylon with a hose clamp to keep the plunger down. i also used zach's advice about the penny to plug up the hole in the header

the total to delete the EGR cost me .01

Thanks guys, I actually have not removed my egr crap yet... I had my codes run a few weeks ago and they said it was the egr was stuck shut...? weird any ideas??

how did you do that with the penny????

i need to cap off the egr and so far no luck of removing it.

remove the bolt, insert penny, tighten botl

you can also use some JB-Weld for added security

You'll have to cut that tube that runs from the header to the EGR valve, take off one of thoes nuts, insert a penny, tighten it back down.

Guys I have a quick fox for your problem. This fix will allow you to remove the EGR completly with no left over parts under your hood. I cant do this test since I am working out of state at the time or I would show you the right method.
You need to get a voltage meter/tester that has an OHM scale. You should see on your plug for the connector some wires. When you allow the vacuum to move the EGR it changes the resistance on those wires. This change allows the computer to know that it has been succesful in moving the plunger. You have to find the resistance that it reads when it is shimmed with tape or whatever method you guys decide to use. Then go to Radio Shack and buy a 1/4 watt resistor that matches the correct resistance. You should only have to cut those 2 wires and connect the resistor from one wire to the other. This tricks the computer into thinking it has a sensor on it. Should help clean up your engine bay. If you dont cut the wires then you may be able to cram the resistor into the plug.

I just depressed the plunger half way, took a pistol drill with a small ass drill bit, drilled a hole through it, and stuck a paper clip through. It's about as clean as you can get with the sensor still in tact.

Cleans up engine bay.
Allows use of Fox body headers.

EGR injects hot exhaust gases into the intake.
