New engine combo lurking.. looking for opinions please!!

I like the idea of a 408 but don't you guys think 185 trick flows is a bit too small for a 408? I would think that a 205 head would be more appropriate. As I said earlier I'm trying to reuse as much as possible. What would you guys think about a 363 dart stroker? Bigger than a 347 but should be ok with my existing heads. You don't hear much about a 363 which I think is the biggest you can go on a 302 based dart block.

I didnt go 363 cause i want to get as many rebuilds as possible out of my dart block. But if you're buying an aftermarket block go 9.2 and dont look back, unless you got a screaming deal like i did.

Couple things. Those heads are too small, but the 185 doesn't say so. TW head has a shorter intake runner length than stock. 170 tw = 185 stock (afr) = 195 high port (canfield). Just sayin.

Also, he's got the heads and want's to stay with them, but there's no reason not to go for the extra cubes (deck height, not bore), and he want's to go supercharger to pack more air through those heads.

i wouldnt really say that they are too small, if it was me id go bigger but i have read about a 408 combo that went low 10's with the small trick flow heads(i think they were 170cc's). So they can support the airflow. His argument was along the lines that the smaller head had the same low lift numbers and most people wont be using a huge cam so it really equals out.

I cant say enough that you should build the biggest motor possible, if your buying a dart block, its the same price for a 8.2 deck as it is for a 9.5, and with boost and those 185's it will make your goal and then some, your going to have to work a smaller motor alot harder to make the numbers

With the pump gas requirement I'd strongly look at a turbo set-up, it will be far more streetable then any large blower and wont be robbing 75-100hp that it takes to drive the larger blowers. The issue with the KB set-up on the pushrod stuff is the lower intake, the GT40 intake is horrible even ported it will not support anywhere near the power you are looking at. I have played with the idea of making an adpater to use a TFS-R lower which I think would be perfect.

If your buying a new blower I agree go F1R, I like the idea of cubes but would prefer a larger head. Although I have a customer with a ported 185 that make over 950RWHP with 18psi from a 80mm turbo on a 331, 160# injectors running E85.

Streetable is all in the eye of the beholder......

Are you looking at 600-700 Flywheel or Rear Wheel HP?

Thanks for the info..

I'm not opposed to going turbo.. especially since I could probably build a kit for less than what the new blower would cost me.

As far as goals go.. I'd like to be able to put down at least 600 at the tire.
