New Engine Crank Seal Leaking??

Well i went to my local midas today about a wheel alignment and they had it on the lift with me under it also and we saw my whole oil pan and such covered in oil. midas told me its crank seal? now the engine only have 1,000 miles on it. I bought my engine from Promar Engines in Paterson, NJ. They are great customer service and everything has been fine but i'm not sure if this is their fault or my installers fault. any ideas guys?

pro-mar engines are good when my buddy got his new 2.3 liter the rear seal was new and he never had a problem with the engine . The installer would not have anything to do with the rear seal though as the engine comes with it from promar could just be a bad seal find out if promar will cover it by warranty.

Also make sure your crankcase ventillation is adequate. Otherwise a perfectly good seal will blow oil because it's the path of least resistance.

I'm so confused by what you just said can you make me understand better. about the whole ventelation stuff. how do i check for that.

by the way so you know its THE CRANK SEAL not the rear main seal

If the whole oil pan is soaked how do they know where the leak is coming from? What about the oil pan gasket? Oil filter gasket? Dipstick tube? I would recommend giving it a thorough cleaning and then running it before checking for any leaks. You want to be sure before you let somebody go tearing into the engine.

I agree with the above ^^. We should clarify which seal is leaking.

Your crankcase becomes pressurized as a result of piston sweep and blowby. That pressure has to go somewhere. It's evacuated via the PCV valve in stock form. If the PCV system becomes clogged (namely the screen under the PCV grommet), the pressure builds up, and as a result, it starts to look for other avenues of escape. Ergo the pressurized air starts to escape past dynamic seals.

So what exactly am i doing to check to find out what is leaking. i'm really new with all this mustang engine stuff. its like jibberish to me.

MY PVC Valve hose and screen and everything was replaced about 200 miles ago so it can't be that.. since thats fine what else hissin?

What did the problem turn out to be?

he thinks its the CRANK SEAL but hes gonna check it out before he fixes it.
