new engine started but no oil pressure?

I started my new engine, it ran very rough, and we noticed after about 30 secs it had no oil pressure. My helper also mentioned it looked like the dizzy was oscillating a bit. I pulled the dizzy out and everything looked ok. Is it possible that the end of the dizzy went along side the hex shaft for the oil pump?

I spun the shaft with a drill and it showed oil pressure on the dash..

is it a mechanical guage or electric? if its electric check and make sure that the wire didnt come off the sending unit, and as far as the dizz not being on the shaft u would know it bc the car wouldnt start bc you would have never be able to get the dizzy past the cam gear, check and make sure that you didnt blow a fuse for the dash guages.

When you say the distributor was "Oscillating a bit" - what does that mean?

Its the guage on the dash, I had someone watch and when I spin the pump shaft with a drill it showed pressure..


It kind of wobbled around.. Its a new distrubutor too

sounds like your running the wrong dizzy gear. Pull the dizzy and inspect for damage. If the dizzy isnt spinning to the proper rpm, niether is your oil pump, and your car will run like crap.
