Hey all,

Got a new motor with mods listed below...

800 miles of going easy on the motor thus far (break in period). I was driving to work last night in the rain and I was just cruisin along at 60mph and all of a sudden I lost acceleration completly, I pumped the gas pedal once and it came back for an instant only to go away again...then I heard "POP!"...5 second delay "POP!" out of my exaughst (sounded like a backfire). I shut my car off imediatly and pulled over.

My dad came with his F250 and towed me back to my house, we basically looked through everything and everything is ok...as in getting oil pressure, engine cranking, getting fuel ect...but I completely lost spark. The coil is not sparking, the wires are not sparking ect...

Any ideas? Could my ignition have gone bad?

I have mallory 6al box, msd coil, msd distributor/cap.

Any help on this would be much apreciated.

Put the stock ignition back on & see what happens.

Short list of things to troubleshoot:

1.) TFI module on distributor has failed
2.) Coil is bad
3.) PIP (Hall effect sensor inside distributor) has failed.
4.) Computer power failed - ECC relay on top of computer is bad. Computer is located under passenger side kick panel and will skin up your hands and knuckles getting it out to get to the ECC relay. If the ECC relay is working properly, there will be 12 volts on one side of the IAB (idle air bypass) motor connector.
5.) No power to coil - should be 12 volts with the ignition switch in the run position.
6.) Failed computer.

Much apreciated. I know it cant be computer related cause I dont have one. I am carburated.

But I hope its something simple none the less.

How do you bypass it? Also is it safe to mount it in the engine compartment? Thats where my dad and I decided to although I have seen it mounted inside the car most the time.

I am just really frustrated here...just finished the ride and got a wiring problem...and 200+ dollar one. I just want to drive my car and after $13,000 in parts and it not being on the road for almost 2 years is that too much to ask?

My grandpa and I have been doing tests (conductivity and what not) and the coil is getting power. It has to be the ignition box itself.

Is there a switch that can get tripped or a fuse that could be blown within the box or is my best bet to send it to mallory for a new one?

Its brand spanken new and only been in my car a week, so I dont know what could have happened to it...

I had the exact same thing happen to my Mallory VI AL ignition that I had on my truck. would only pop and bang out the exhaust, no start. switched back to stock ignition and no problems since.

I just took mine apart and there was moisture inside...fried some circuits....

I talked to mallory they are going to send me a new one, the first thing I am doing is taking it apart and siliconing the edges and screwholes to avoid this in the future...

In your truck did you have it mounted near the motor or in the cab??

Thanks,
