New Fog Lights---Is Preventative Maintenance Needed?

I recently replaced the stock, old fog light housings w/the new, clear better-looking Taiwan replacements.
The old Ford plastic buckets had a crack right across the back, & my guess is that the heat of the bulbs eventually breaks down the cheap plastic housing, which makes it fail.
Before installing the new ones, I ran a bead of silicone sealer along the joint between the lens & the bucket, but now I'm wondering if I should take 'em out & seal the top of the bucket by wrapping it w/glass cloth or duct tape or something waterproof?
I drive mine--rain or shine, summer & winter.
Whaddaya think?
