New Four Eyed Owner

The metal strip won't be a problem at all. But the plastic part of the moulding needs to "relax" back into being flat. Liked I mentioned, a heat gun can help with this. Still, give it a day or two to lay flat again. once the two are separated, then put weight on it to help the plastic to lay flat again. Don't completely remove the metal backing. Just an inch or two past the curling.

Yes, i do mean the metal strip on the back of the moulding itself.

Hey guys! Here are some more pictures of the car. Like I said before I am pretty sure the car is mostly stock. I am pretty sure a new air intake was put on but other than that I was wondering if you guys could see anything not stock? Also there was a debate whether it was a GT or LX, still do not know but is it possible to know by the interior? Pictures also show the gauge cluster with it idling, hopefully the idle looks good. Last is the exterior parts that need to be fixed. There is a ding on the left side on top of the wheel well (see pics). Underneath the lights the paint is chipping and was wondering how hard that is to fix? Lastly the moldings are starting to peel just a little bit. I had taken the rear right molding off because that one was very bad. Hoping the molding on it now can be fixed and not taken off completely. Let me know what you guys think! I love constructive criticism and hope I can use it to make this car look beautiful.

Well, immediately, your heater core is not hooked up. So no heat when it gets cold.

You do have an A/C evaporator, but not the rest of the A/C. So, no cold when it gets hot. It did have it at one time.

You have low back seats like my '83 GLX. I can't tell you off the top of my head what the seats were for GT's, I was thinking sport seats though.

Take a picture of the buck tag. That's that little metal tag on the radiator support. If there is an ID sticker in the driver's door jamb, take a picture of that as well. You'll at least know if you have a GT or not. The buck tag will also tell you if it's factory two toned.

My gut says it's an L or an LX made to look like a GT. Not that that is bad.

The fan shroud looks a little out of the ordinary as well. Of course the air cleaner isn't stock.

Your mouldings should have two pinstripes running completely around the vehicle and the moulding area should be black.

Do you have fog lights? Check the front bumper to see if it has the lights or holes even if you think it doesn't. Those front bumpers are tough to come by.

Couldn't add all the pics to one post lol

I am having lots of trouble finding my buck tag and the ID sticker has been too faded out to read. Can these buck tags be taken out somehow?
Yeah they can, they're just held on with a small screw or bolt. Sometimes it'll be located on the front side of the radiator support. It's not big, here's mine off of my blue car so you know what it looks like.

I feel like I looked harder than it needed to be so I concluded it has been taken off lol! Hopefully the Marti Report will come in sooner than later so I can know exactly what color this stang used to be. One thing I have noticed is before I moved the title over to my name it did say the car was blue. Is it possible to change this on the title?

Default for receiving Marti report is emailed PDF. That usually takes about a week to two weeks. You pay extra for a printed copy in the mail and you have to deliberately choose that add-on. The mail option takes longer than email obviously.

Decoding the VIN on your own will not tell you the model. LX 5.0L and GT have same codes in VIN. You need the door tag or buck tag or owner card or build sheet or window sticker to tell you for real. Those all have LX or GT specific code or words on them. Of course Marti can tell you with just the VIN because they have access to Ford's production database. VIN decoders do not.

GT did not get Sport seats standard until 1985 so non-Sport seats in 1984 GT is normal. The exception in 1984 is the G.T.350 got Sport seats standard.

There are one or two brackets in the same general location that the buck tag would be in. The factory attaches the tag before the bracket(s) so if they put the tag in the place the bracket(s) is/are supposed to go, the tag will get covered and it's hard to spot.

You do have GT dash bezels but so much else is changed on the car it is anyone's guess what is original and what is not.

States decide what to put on their titles. Some don't even include the color of the body. Those that do include body color may update the title if the color changes between owners. Titles are no means to prove original color.
