i just picked up these 2 gauges on ebay for 55 with shipping and was thinking about placing them in the empty space below where the radio is, what do you guys think of this location

im not diggin that location too much. You have to look down to check your gauges. Im a big fan of the clock pod location myself.

I have 2 on the A-pillar, 2 on the Clock pod...I love the clock pod ones. If your clock still works, you may want to go with a double A-Pillar!

I would say go for the A-pillar also. I love that hammer shifter though. I dont know but if you mount the gauges there you might smack them with your knuckles when you hammer into gear

For the kind of guages you got (temp and volt) I think it'd be fine. If it was boost, fuel press. etc. I'd see the poit of it being more visible. You don't really need to keep constant tabs on your volts, though.
I'll have to get off my butt and go snap a pic of my car as I have 3 small guages mounted in the same spot. Maybe it'll give you a better idea of what the finished product will look like.

Since it's not a boost or fp guage you'll be fine. here's a picture of what mine look like in that spot.

I like that BTM knob in that spot..I hate mine here.
Side note: I need to get those white-faced gauges.
