Hello all , just bought my First Mustang tis a 1995 Base 3.8 V6 but the body is CLEAN no rust or rot anywhere

So i got this for 400.00 because the seller put a new clutch in it and after it would not go in or out of gear T5 trans BTW ended up being the clutch cable was just totally shot , got the new cable in and it works Great HOWEVER i have no speedo did some checking and found it was unplugged from the trans. Plugged it in and went for a drive and the speedo went NUTZ said i was doing 120mph we the gps said i was only going 25mph , i did More checking and fond this trans was from a 1999 with what looks like a Hall Effect sensor ?

So my question is Can i change the hall effect out for the gear driven setup or do i have to get a complete different trans ?

Thanks those are the pictures I was sent went I was looking at it, I’ve already started cleaning it up and other than a few dings and small dents it’s really not bad at all

Yes the front and rear bumpers could be replaced but for now I’m well happy with it

So I got to the junkyard on Sunday and found a few bits , the more I do to this thing the more I love it

So I got a new to me steering wheel and steering column new HVAC face and shifter trim , also found a complete Black Leather interior that I’m going to pick up on Wednesday

Edit if mods want to move this thread I’ll just make this my build thread then

So given your speedo is not reading correct, it could be the speedo gear is wrong. Do you know if the previous owner changed the rear gears? If not, jack up the rear, support with jack stands, put the car in neutral, rotate driveshaft and count how many times driveshaft will rotate to have tire rotate once. Common ratios would be 3.27, 3.55, 3.73 and 4.1. If changed from stock, I would bet it is one of those.

Also, while car is on jack stands, try to read tag on the differential cover. You are looking for the numbers/letters in the second row starting on the left.

Next go to the transmission and find the tag, will be mounted with one of the bolts that connects the tail housing to the main case (it could be on either side - driver or passenger side). Again looking for the numbers on second row starting at left. It will start - 13-52-xxx. The xxx will indicate what year the trans was originally in and can help identify the gear ratios within the transmission.

Shoot us the info and/or some pics

It is shining up nicely.

Ok so today was the day , had great weather and I got to go pick up the new to me interior and man what a transformation it just gives this car a whole new purpose well worth the 112.00 from the junkyard

So I finally had time to pull the mustang in and put it on the lift at work and as I thought it’s Clean , Well other than the pinch weld being all fugged up but I’ll get to them over the summer

From now on when you lift it please don't use the pinch welds. That is incorrect and can cause the fender misalignment and folded pinch welds.

Um sure I mean wouldn’t want to mess up these pristine pinch welds , LOL but seriously tho I know and I was in a rush and I’m going to be fixing them over the summer anyway

I didn't mean to come off as a jack ass. Didn't realize it until I just re-read it. I'm not the old crotchety member on here. Someone else holds that title.

My pinch welds were screwed up on my car when I bought it too. My frame rails are also dented a little. I've been telling myself to buy a harbor freight stud puller and fix them. Just haven't gotten that far yet. Lol

Car looks pretty rust free under there.

Yeah I just looked up a hammer and dolly set to by to help with this , I still cannot believe I got this for 400.00 and how unloved it was but yet still somehow it’s in as good of shape as it is for living it’s life in PA

To answer your question, the trans uses a VR sensor to rear the speed gear inside the trans.

Converting it to the gear drive setup found on earlier Mustangs would require disassembling that trans and swapping some parts around. I would just get an aftermarket speedo with GPS and use that to monitor your speed. I don't think you are too concerned with the odometer reading.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking, however if i can find a good trans with the correct set up I’ll go that route

With it being on a antique plate mileage is not a factor but I Really want the stock speedometer working

Then you want a 94-98 V6 T5. WOuld be a direct bolt in.
