Hey there,

I just bought a 1990 LX that will be delivered on Sunday the 14th of Aug. The guy is bringing it all the way down here (Portland) from Everett (SP).

It has a rebuilt 302 from J & M Racing and a C6 (yes a C6). The car is a bit rough but I wanted to convert it back to EFI bcuz he put a holley 650 on it and removed all the electronics like the ECU and junk.

Any thoughts where I can get some good EFI parts for this car? Will it all work with the new tranny?

The interior is an 8.5 out of 10 and the body is straight but needs paint. I really want to get this thing legal if I can.

Thanks everyone.

The trans should be fine. The AOD's were not electronic, same as the C-6. Oregon emissions arent too bad if you have a good set of OEM cats. Aftermarket high flows wont do you much good unless the engine is fairly stock. Loose the Carb

Dang, thats a long drive without O/D!

Oh yea...welcome to Stangnet

The bad news is the car has no exhaust from the manifolds back. I will be needing headers and a full exhaust put in.

The current owner says it has a cam and gave me part numbers but no specs. He said them so fast that I did not write them down.

Looks like I have my work cut out for me...

Thanks for the reply.

I still need to find all of the EFI stuff but will start that next weekend after the car gets here. I have about $5,000 to spend on the car to get it the way I want it.

Any thoughts? Should I go stock or aftermarket on the EFI? Where is a good place to find this stuff?

Thanks
Joe

Unless you have hopes of some really serious Turbo or Supercharger in the future, there isnt much need for a standalone. I would look over craigslist and the classifieds here, someone is bound to have a harness and pcm lying around. Unless they butchered your main harness, it should be very easy to re-install the engine side harness

if you ask 10 people about exhaust, you will get 10 different replies. IF you can, go listen to some and see what you like. Research first

so its an all out carb conversion? it has been started and ran as a carb'd car? there will be more then the harness and ecu to convert back if so.

efi parts for the 5.0 are cheap and easy to come by. full exhaust should cost you no more then $700 for all brand new quality parts.

if the motor was rebuilt and still fresh, you can throw a nice heads/cam/intake package on there for 2k from trickflow and make 300 hp at the wheels. the trickflow package has all the odds and ends too, so its really a pretty good deal and matched well. definately the best budget option if your going back to efi, looking for power, and on a budget imo.

you can get a complete harness pretty cheaply off the forums/ebay. along with the computer and all other matching components, maybe run a search and make a list of everything you will need for the swap back.

either way, some good places to get new/used parts. ebay, summitracing.com, forums over at www.corral.net, jegs, 5.0resto.com, texasmustang.com. probably others but i cant think of them right now.

good luck

Hey Joe, WELCOME!!!!!!!!!

Another 1990 LX, only the finest stang ever built.... (Im biased, see sig)

Anyhow... well gospeed wont tell ya cuz it's unethical or something, but he and the other Jeff that he works with are factory trained Ford techs who specialize in Mustangs. SOOOOO if you need stuff put on, they do good work at a fair price.

As for the computer/harness you could call their sudo-partner Chung at Blue Oval (cant find the damn number, somebody help me out) he is the local king of rat-holed parts that ya need.

If ya want new stuff, Ford Motorsport sells most of it in the SD-MAF conversion kit, and a 93cobra intake is a nice upgrade over stock too...

Good luck,
Dave-
