new guy + i need help...

i have a 1998 mustang gt auto with around 70k miles. my car is currently in the shop with the entire rear end being replaced. it was shot. but be sure thats what the sound is from, sounds run. i'd suggest getting up to about 45 on a isolated street, putting the car in neutral, and turning off the engine. this way you wont here the exhaust and engine... now slightly swerve back and fourth, and if you hear the sound change in the rear end to a bit higher pitched sound its probably your axle barrings, and if thats what it is you should take it to a shop and get it looked at, because it will wear out other parts in the rear end.

personally since i has to change the rear end altogether (800 bucks + 400 install) I got 3.73 gears.

good luck. hopefully its just the ring and pinion.
