Hi Iam Chris...and this is my 20th mustang I live near west palm beach florida.

I bought a 02 gt...full saleen replica very very nice car, yesterday for a great price. Knowing that nos has been pushed through it, I bought it anyways .(the price was right) Ill post pics later. Anyways I noticed this ticking noise on the passenger side of the motor, sounds almost like a 302 with lifter noise. check engine light came on and it feels almost like its running on 7 cylinders? Any ideas? I know nothing about these 4.6 motors at all. Im a fox and s/n body guy. Any help would be great.

Pull the plugs and see what they look like.

Check the code also.

The only time I've heard a car with the noise you describe is after a cam swap.

Ticking sound could be a lifter, exhaust leak, plug backing out of the head, injectors....the list goes on. Does it happen when the engine is cold or warm? Is it a very loud noise or more faint?

Cars has a doctors appointment at 10am, unfortunatly I cant be there since I have to work. It makes the noise faintly at idle then rev it to about 2500rpms and its very distinct. at idle there is a popping coming from the exhaust almost like a miss but its not rythmic. Ill keep you guys posted as the day goes on.....

I say it could be a bad plug. If he ran nitrous and he ever went lean he could have toast a plug or two. Is the nitrous still on the car? If it is and you plan on running it, get he car on the dyno and make sure its not leaning it out too much.

If there's a poping in the exhaust 04YellowGT is right, could be a plug. It the plug isn't firing it's leaving the fuel unburned in the cylinder and then shooting it out into the hot exhaust where it ignites and "pops".
