New headers just came... Kooks 1-7/8's

Hey guys. UPS man came with my new kooks custom headers for the 418 project. They came alot quicker then i thought, took less then 3 weeks. I also got a kooks 3 inch X pipe.

So now what do i do about a coating? Put them on, make sure they fit well then pull em and jet-hot coat them? Or should i just spray them with some black high heat paint, then get them jet-hot coated in the winter?

I really dont want to have anymore downtime with the car, so im thinking option number two. Will the high heat paint hold up on headers? I think autozone has some 1500 degree stuff...

Whats the duct tape around them for and whats that flange thing down hear the collector? Thoes do look nice. I would just leave them as they are for now then get them coated later on. Thoes things are huge!

630 shipped, through bennet racing. You cant buy directly from KOOKS. The 3 inch X pipe was 210 i believe.. If you want it coated too, expect to pay a bit more.

They are "slip" on. So your supposed to install one pipe at a time, then slide the collect over it, then bolt those two nuts done to hold it. Its suppose to make it easier to install..

Those Kooks look nice If it's a daily driver, I would coat them. No sense in ruining them with rust. Otherwise, I hope they mount better than my Mac's!

Does that bolt-on piece prevent leaks? Or are you suppose to weld that?

From my understanding it gets just left like that.. since the pipe slides so far into the collecter (and so tightly) leaks arent an issue

Yea the headers are one of the biggest money things in this swap. I didnt have a choice, since the exhaust ports on the afr225 head are so big, that the 1-7/8 primary just barely covers it.. When you consider what you are getting and compare the price to a set of BBK 1-3/4 351 swap headers(that arent even for our year) its not really that bad.

Deep pockets? Nah.

The shortblock got picked up today, so i should have it hopefully by the end of this week/early next week. Then i just need the heads/cam, which im waiting on.. Then i gotta figure out the pushrod length, and get those, and she'll be set to fire it up. I would say 2-3 weeks from now.

thanks man. Ill have some vids up when it runs. Im still deciding on mufflers. I have one 3inch dynomax race muffler that i was gonna use with my single exhaust when i had the turbo. So i figure ill just get one more and dump it before the axle. Should be loud.. i hope

Not sure really, i hope atleast 1.2-1.3 hp per cube... Time will tell..

I've never had high temp paint last on any kind of header...even the 1500 degree paint. You seem like you're doing everything right the 1st time, you may as well just have em coated off the bat.
