New heads on 102k mile motor

i plan on putting my ported twisted wedge heads (along w/ the rest of my planned setup) on my 102k mile stock 91GT motor. A couple buddies of mine that have built some motors say not to do it w/ out re-ringing it and throw in new bearings while im at it. They said it form such a nice seal up top and the rings would be worn out that i would loose compression through the rings. This would cause the eninge to smoke and eventually blow the rings. Should i just put the heads on anyways or tear aprt the engine to re-ring, re-bearing, and machine shop check it?

The only way to tell is do a compression check...

If it makes you feel any better I added my parts in sig with 143k on the clock...

I'd be willing to bet your car would be fine...102k...you ain't even broke in yet... :D

Just remember...mileage is not necessarily an assumption of condition...a 50k shortblock could be more "worn" than a 150k...it is all how it has been treated and if the regular checkups have been done (changing oil...etc...)...

It's happened both ways to me. I put new heads on my old Chevelle and it started burning oil right away, I added new heads to my Mustang and never had a problem. I don't think you'll have a problem, the way the engines are built and tuned now-a-days they last twice as long as the old engines. Like 5spd GT says, it's barely broke in.
