im in the process of building my 347 (still...not time because of school). i planned on using my money for some AFR 185's, but decided at the last second not to order them. i have gt40P heads from an explorer that i can put on, which i know is not the best head out there for a 347. My question is should i spend my money on a new set of heads with my AODE, or should i use the gt40p heads on the 347 and swap out the tranny for a T5, which will roughly be in the same price range.
im not sure, so can anyone help me out?

Do you have anything done to the AOD-E to beef it up? The AOD-E and T5 aren't that great with a modded motor like that. I would recommend swapping to a Tremec and just using the GT40 heads. The power you lose with the older heads is going to be made up by the substantially less drivetrain loss from the 5 speed. I just went from an AOD-E to 5 speed and the car feels so quick now, I can't imagine how it would be with a 347.

It depends, I got a T5 for $400 used with 40,000 miles

Most used tremecs go for $800 to $1000, and I think they're $1300 new. I spent about $1400 for the entire conversion.

AOD-E to Tremec

Taking out the 200 lb chunk of crap was the hardest part. That AOD-E is a heavy turd.
