New heater core

Well i put it off last winter and indeed it is beginning to get chilly out so now i have to. I have to replace the.... HEATER CORE Muahahahaha
Agh so whats the best way to go about this if anyone has done it and should i just remove the front seats. My heater core has been "bypassed"?? Does anyone know what this means? I saw some hoses disconnected at the firewall and someone said its because my heater core has been bypassed..I have know idea what i even need to buy so any help is much appreciated. I know this is going to suck.

Well what suckes about the heater core is you have to discharge the A/C. I would think that the bypass means that it bypassed the heater core but I have no clue on that part LOL.

bypassed means that the inlet and the outlet hoses that would have been hooked up to the heater core are hooked together.

When I replaced mine a couple of years ago, I did it the easy way( really not the best, I guess) and didn't have to discharge the AC, or remove the seats. I simply disconnected the water hoses from the core, pulled back the dash, then cut a small access panel out of the plastic box that houses the core. The reason for this was that I needed a couple of more inches of clearence to pull out the old core. The lid would lift up, but not far enough without pulling the whole assembly out, which would have necessitated getting in to the AC lines. After cutting the access panel, I removed the old core, inserted the new one, and used high temp tape(probably not really necessary) to tape back the panel. Closed everything back up, reconnected the hoses, and it has run perfectly ever since.

Yeah I had a shop do mine, then about 6 months later maybe even sooner the darn thing started leaking again so to make a long story short I have had 3 heater cores so far LOL.

Get a Ford replacement heater core!! I replace one 4 times on a 97 F150 with a auto parts brand with a lifetime warrenty.

teamgs has it right... i didn't discharge AC either and i too had to break the lid the core was held in

I did not have to get into the AC system either, I just unbolted all the points where the metal frame of the dash attaches to the chassis of the car. Removed the front seats, dropped the steering wheel to the floor. There are two or three bolts on each side of the dash that bolt to the door pillars, there are I think 4 bolts in the center under the radio, can't remember if there are any in the defrost vents or not. Once that is done you should be able to pull the dash towards you and it will drop a little. Under the hood there is a couple studs with nuts on them, loosen them and the core/condensor box should pull to the inside of the car enough for you to get access to the core door.

Swam them out then re-assemble.

Rude_life......be sure to get the replacement hoses from since yours has been bypassed. One of them has a restrictor for some reason.
