New Ignition switch..help

I got this ignition switch This one a few months ago and never put it in. my car was having trouble starting so i figured i would put it in. Well, I got my car started before i was working on this. Anyway, i took the old one out and went to put on the new one. When i put the harness on immiediately the fuel pump primed and all the dash lights came on like it was in key on engine off position, but the keys werent even in the ignition. I switched it back with the old one i had taken off and it didnt do that. I tried switching them back and forth with the same results. any ideas?

That's really wierd. I'd see if I could exchange it for a different one.

Must be in the "on" position, there is a pin on the column that fits into a hole on the switch, make sure they are aligned...all I can think of
