I am going to run edelborck aluminum heads with a stock cam (for now) and the stock intake. I wanted to know what power gains I will see with just the heads and need to know at what point I need to run bigger injectors, MAF, fuel pump?
you wont need to upgrade anything just by running aluminum heads. There is nothing wrong with the stock cam either, it the heads that are the bottleneck in the combo. There are guys using the stock cam pushing 700 hp on power adder applications. As for upgraded maf, injectors, its not needed. If you plan on stepping up your intake and running a bigger cam eventually, you will benfit from upgrading to 24lbers with a calibrated maf to match it. The stock pump will be fine, as the heads your adding arent going to be enough hp to tap your stock parts potential.
well, this is just me, but.....
i would save up money and get an intake done at the same time as the heads. for $ wise, i would go with a cobra, or if you can swing it, an RPM intake. you really dont need a MAF or injectors now, but if you can find them at the right $, then go for it. a set of 24#ers and a 75mm MAF would be nice too. I forget your info, but do you have a bigger throttle body? if not, a 65mm would work nice with those heads too.
tbadair - the real bottleneck is the stock intake. It's the biggest bottleneck in the whole stock engine - and will really hamper any gains from the heads. You could leave the stock cam with no problems - but the intake is a real problem. If you're looking for a budget alternative, get tmoss to port the stock lower. For a very good price, you'll still look stock, but the ported lower intake will let those heads breath. And you should be ok with the stock injectors -- however, as others said, with the heads and intake, you'll start to tax your throttle body and maf.
