Have anyone in Jersey taken their car thru the Inspection Station with say a cold air kit in place?? How about having a MRT Catted H pipe or equivalent catted x-pipe and failed the visual inspection??
I know they can either put you on the rollers or just hook up to your computer and look for codes, but have you failed any visual inspections for having an aftermarket product on the car.
How about having a aftermarket cat back system that is on the loud side. Have any of you Jersey Stangs failed inspection for loud exhaust??? Did they test it with a db meter or just by sound??
Please let me know, I will be going through NJ inspection soon.

Thanks for your responses.

i never brought mine through inspection as i would fail. what year is your car? i dont think they will look under the hood. the midpipe might be a problem for visual if they look under there. i never see them looking under other cars though.

they should just hook up the computer and if you are not throwing any codes then you should be ok. the loud exhaust might get them looking under the car though.

my boy takes his camaro through, loud as hell and passes. hes legal but loud.

I went thru with my everthing except my x-pipe.I put my off x-pipe on the day after. They just hooked up to my computer and looked under to see if I had cats. My cats were gutted at the time too. They never opened my hood. I'm due for inspection in February and I'm gonna go to a private station.

you will pass just fine...they don't fail you for CAI like California. I passed with headers, cat X and catback etc etc

Thanks everyone for your responses. Sounds like I shouldn't have a problem.
I an going this morning, right after work. I did remove the Densecharger CAI and put the whole stock pieces on. Can't wait to get them off, car is sluggish. Didn't think I would feel a difference but there is.
I will report back.
If it passes I will be putting on a Accufab 75 mm TB and plenum, plus reinstalling the CAI.
Can't wait to get out of here, pass inspection and put on the new pieces.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Thanks again for your responses.

Where are you guys located in NJ?
I am from Hamilton Township NJ, near Princeton.

20 dollar bills pass lots of people.... just find a nice friendly station that is a "performance" shop and give them an extra 20 bucks...

I wouldn't pass because of my tint so I just pay a friend in the business to pass me. It's nice to know people.

Just out of curiosity, they wouldn't pass you for having a blower on right?

Wish I knew some one I could slip a 20 to and pass. Have to go to the inspection station unfortunately.
Hey AMBO, that is an interesting question. I would imagine they could reject you for a visual inspection, since it isn't stock looking. I know some of the blower manufacturers are CARB certified, but I don't know what kind of hassle they would give you.
I have been hastled in the past. when I had a Ranger I had a flowmaster exhaust on it, it was loud but not ear blowing. The guy at the inspection station tried to fail me for having an exhaust leak. he didn't even look under the truck, just was going to fail me.
I protested and another, younger guy, pulled out the old mirror and checked under the truck and passed me.
So they can be pains in the asses. That is why I asked the question.
Blowers, I don't know, passing visual could be a problem.
Any one out there with a blower and got harassed by the good old inspectors at the inspection station?? Did you eventually pass??

Thanks again guys.

The KB 1.7 is 50 state legal except for the 14psi pulley which of off-road only.

This is kind of a coincidence.. I just had to do my e-check today. I passed with an O/R Magnaflow X, homemade MIL elims, and magnaflow catback.

The last two times I was there they didn't even look under the car. This time they did though.. I just about crapped my pants when I saw the guy take out the mirror. He looked around for a bit and said have a nice day... I don't think he knew what he was looking for. Or he mistook my heat wrapped X-Pipe and multitude of hose clamps for a converter..

I just passed inspection yesterday with MAC Catted H pipe and Flowmaster catback along with cold air. I had no issue what so ever. They didn't look under the hood or under the car at all.

BUT it also depends what kind of mood the guy is in when you go. I went to the one in Randolph, NJ FYI.

You should be fine.

I want to thank everyone for their assistance and writing in.
The Stang went right through the inspection and passed with flying colors.
They plugged into the computer port for emissions check and of course no codes. They popped the hood and looked around, but everything was stock.
As far as I can tell they didn't look under the car.
I guess I was lucky. When I got out of the car, the guy who was going to drive it through the tests was a Mustang owner.
He said don't worry you will pass. I spoke to him afterwards and he said it passed, I didn't need him.
Since it passed I installed the Accufab 75 mm TB and Plenum.
Install was easy, even without instructions. Everything came apart with no problems. Everything bolted right up without any problems.
Fired the car up and let it idle for a good 3 minutes. Took the car out for an hour ride, to get everything set.
Well, I highly recommend this mod, no matter what TB/Plenum combination you buy.
From off idle to 6k the car flew and sang. The intake noise was twice as loud as before. The throttle response was superb. From just taking off normal to wide open Throttle, the car was quicker.
I really can hear and feel the difference, how many HP did I gain, I don't know but it was worth the money.
It seems the more I drive it the better it gets. I guess the computer is still learning the air flow characteristics.
I think I might check around for a Dyno Tune now. Have to check some prices and see what kind of gains I can expect with a tune.
Again guys, thanks for your help.

I failed in Oct 04 for tint
Didn't even know at the time it was illegal, bought the car used. They really looked like they were trying to fail for emmissions, but clearly it was legal, with just the Flowmasters. Been driving around with a red "rejected" sticker since then. Gonna take off the tint when I go back this Oct, then retint right after I leave.
