New Kenne Bell #'s

Great Dan, I have seen numbers that indicate the Slowmasters robbed power and this looks to prove it again.
FWIW you are putting numbers very close to my stock 2001 KB with a Magnaflow catback. I have dynoed a few times. Different dynos, different days. At KB my lowest numbers were 385 rwhp in August, my highest was at Brothers Performance in November at 400 rwhp and 410 rwtq.

Cool, thanks bro. My last run that day after the car was hot was around 385hp. I should be getting a #10 pulley today whenever the slow ass FEDEX guy gets here, So I guess its back to the dyno again!!!!

I definately gained power putting magnaflows on. Funny thing is I only bought it for the sound.. I was only expecting a few HP out of it.. but I gained about 10-15 from it. Congrats on your new numbers and lean that mofo out a bit. You have power and a lot more torque to gain there.

yeah, it's crazy how that back pressure kills power!

when are you gonna get to the dyno bro?

I went about a month ago and I posted on here what my numbers were.

Pump gas
382hp , 408tq
Race Gas
394, 413tq

We believe that this dyno was actually reading about 20hp low because my father has a vette that he dynod last year, and his numbers this year actually came out lower and he's made mods since the last time. It was also outside in about 90 degree weather. So I think I may actually be running a little stronger than what my dyno showed.

Actually that may not be completely true. If you lose too much backpressure on a n/a engine you will lose torque across the rpm band.

Kenne Bell tested long tube headers on their 03 cobra setup with the 2.2L blower at about 600 rwhp. The long tubes gained 0 hp. Backpressure was reduced by more than 50% with a resulting gain of NO, read that, NO hp. They concluded there is no need with our engines to go crazy with full exhaust unless you just like the sound. Any aftermarket muffler and no cats should provide good power gain from stock and thats that.

All this flowmasters vs straight-through supposedly being so much better is a load of crap. There maybe some adverse affects on a/f ratio etc. but the actual mufflers flowing x vs y is going to be little if not NO different.

where is your proof to back that statement up? I have 2 dyno sheets that say flow-thru design is better then chambered in a forced induction application. plus, i did feel the difference right off the bat with the pacs.

Dan,

I just got my car back and have a few questions for you:

Did you change your fuel filter? Did you notice any part-throttle pinging before changing your fuel filter? Will changing your fuel filter eliminate slight part throttle pinging?

I did change my fuel filter. I change it almost everytime I change my oil. I don't really notice any difference after I change it. Are you getting part throttle pinging?

Tim proved your statements wrong. He used 2 chambered flows vs magnaflows i think it was and there was basically no power difference on a Kenne Bell'd car. Its all a wash...there is no end all muffler. It basically boils down to what you like and thats it. In CERTAIN applications like a turbo'd car that has adverse affects on backpressure responds much differently to different mufflers.

Is changing your fuel filter that often really necessary? Recommended changing interval is like 30k miles. Speaking of which i just turned 30k on my car so i probably should change it.

Thats fine. I went from 3 chamber flowmasters to Magnapacs and saw roughly a 13hp increase. So there was a difference on MY kenne bell powered car. Ken at KB even said himself that getting rid of the 3 chambers and going with a flow thru muffler would make a difference.

Not really necessary, but either is changing my oil every 2k miles. More of a piece of mind thing. Look at it this way, can't hurt the car right?

Yes my point was that the reason of the gain was because they were 3chambered flowmasters not because they were any flowmasters. 2 chambered flowmasters would have not shown any type of noticeable powergain.
