I purchased a 2007 Mustang GT CS about a month ago now. I am interested in doing a few upgrades to increase the overall horsepower and performance. I'm new to the Mustang world and a lot of the terms so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome!

The first thing I would look at is a CAI and a tune. The CAI is good for a few HP, and the tune is an absolute must. Throttle response will be greatly improved, as well as the over all feel of the car. I ordered mine from www.bamachips.com, who is very well known for his tunes and his customer service (will revise tunes for free if you get future mods). Another popular tuner is www.brenspeed.com, who I hear is very good as well.

Next you might want to look in to exhaust work, which typically doesnt add a tremendous amount of horsepower, but it sure makes it sound good! Other things to think about would be gears, underdrive pullies, lightweight drive shaft, and suspension work.

Do some searches here on some of those things and you'll get tons of hits on them.

Exhaust could be your biggest nightmare. Each company has a muffler that seems very different than the next on the 05+ Stangs. There are really loud obnoxious ones, near stock quiet, those with drone(my Flowmasters have some, but I like it), those without drone. The best thing to do about exhaust would be to find somebody with a GT with aftermarket exhaust and listen to theirs. There are plenty of video and audio clips on the net as well. Most are idling and revving clips which to me does not give a fair representative of the sound. It is much better to hear the car under a load(drive by, accelerating, etc.)
Good luck and enjoy your new ride and your experiences here at:SNSign:

I completely agree! Picking the right combo can be a nightmare, I was lucky enough that a friend local met me and let me listen to his before I pulled the trigger. I was guessing on the H-pipe, but after installing the resonators, I couldn't be happier with my exhaust. I'm hoping to get some new exhaust clips (under load) this weekend.

I bought the Borla Cat-Back system which I can't complain, I mean it is nice but I could have standed it to be louder but I may switch to side exhaust later on anyway even though I hear it takes some of your horsepower away.

Gears! Do gears! It's the single most effective mod. The standard bolt ons for that extra pop are gears, tune, cai, exhaust, UD pullies. I suggest 4.10's.

And stickers! You can't forget stickers! The better one's are the one that say "hemi", or "427". Fake bullet holes aren't too bad either. It also works to apply the stickers directly to the parts that you're ordering, it makes them feel more special and try even harder to make horsies.

The bullet hole stickers save weight... those "missing" pieces of body add up!! LOL

UD's, CAI with tune, X or H pipe
