Hi, I recently built my first mod motor (old fox guy)

It was a simple assembly of a NPI junkyard bottom end with worked PI heads.

For the very first time I turned the key it fired up instantly. My young boys said they saw something so I turned it off. Did not see anything.

Second fire up at idols for about 10 seconds or so, and there was a little bit of smoke from the passenger side header area so I shut it down again. Smelling the smoke. I think it was just a header gasket etc.

Went to fire it up a third time and now it will not turn over

It spins freely when cranking there is a smell of fuel, so I’m pretty sure I’m getting fuel I pulled the fuel line off of the rail and there’s fuel pressure there.

I pulled a spark plug and grounded it to the chassis, and it is getting spark. It does seem to be a touch erratic. But not sure if it’s because I was holding it down on a ground by hand.

My next move was to check the crank reluctor wheel. But before I pull the timing cover back off, I wanted to see if there was any other insight.

Thank you guys
