so after i installed my aluminum driveshaft today, i drove down the street to put gas in it. when i started it back up, the oil light came on so i turned it back off and checked the oil. there was barely any on the dip stick! so i bought 2 quarts and put them in. my car doesn't leak a drop of anything except maybe a drop or two of tranny fluid out the tail shaft. and my rear main is good. i know new motors burn oil and smoke for a bit but how long are they supposed to? i changed the oil at like 200 miles then again at like 575. also i'm pretty positive i'm getting oil in my intake. i have no baffle on the valve cover, had to remove for my rocker arms. whats a fix for this? should i just get another valve cover and keep the baffle on it? sorry for the long post. thanks

Find out where the oil is going...

Is it getting into the intake?
Is the pcv hose wet with oil?
Is the TB/VC hose wet with oil?

Is there oil in the intake manifold?

Most sources will say...
"Rings will seat or not seat in the first couple hundred miles, or sooner..."

Consider a compression and/or leakdown test to evaluate ring seal...

What kind of vacuumm is the intake seeing?
How about the crankcase?

Whats the deal with the heads...more specifically the valve guides and stem seals? Are they new? Im guessing by the lack of head info in your sig that you are running stock E7's. Have they been rebuilt?

You should have a buddy drive behind you while you bring the revs up and then let off and let the motor decel from high rpm. If you have a guide or stem seal problem you would most likely see smoking. Then have a person follow you while you do a WOT run. Smoking at WOT may point you to rings. Also have someone start the car for you when its cold...stand behind the car and look for smoking on cold start up. Good luck man

thanks for all the responses guys. i haven't checked my plugs yet, i'll do that later today when i get off work. i was messing with my vac hoses the other day and i noticed my pcv hose had some oil on it as well as my vc/tb hose. how much do compression and leak down tests usually run? when i first got the car running i had a vac check done to it and he said it was exactly where it needed to be....like 17 or whatever. don't know about the crankcase though. he just hooked a vacuum gauge up to the vacuum tree. the heads are stock e7's off a motor that had about 10k on it. i gave them a quick look over and everything looked good, but now i'm starting to wonder. the valves were even still silver and not covered in carbon, that's how "good" they looked. it does smoke a bit on cold start ups, i've noticed, and i think a bit when i get on it. so you guys think maybe rings? i used Power Seal moly rings, if that matters. again, thanks a ton for the responses.

i vote for the PCV, you need some baffled valve covers...the PCV i under ported vacuum so it will pull that oil through the hose and right into your combustion chambers..try using a breather unstead of a PCV for a short while and see if it clears up, i dont know the downside to not running a PCV on an EFI engine so maybe someone else can help there

Smoke on start up would make me lean towards valve stem seals or guides. On E7's with only 10k miles on them, this would be hard to believe...but you cant rule anything out. Do a comp check or leakdown and report back.
