New motor's in, Question for the experienced!!

I got my new motor installed and wired up today. The guy i got it from said it had an F303 cam in it. We found top dead center, dropped the distributor in with the rotor pointing at 11 o'clock. It started up and idled, but it doesnt sound like it should. You can tell theres a cam in it but ive heard a few F cammed cars and they lope more than mine. Would not setting the timing cause it not to lope like it should? (was going to time it but my timing gun is broke) A buddy said once i get the timing set it should but i dont know.(he's got the same set up) This is the first cammed car ive had. So any and all info would be greatly appreciated

What rpms were you idling at?

it idles at about 8-900 rpms. Thats the lowest i could get it with the set screw on the throttle body.

You really need to have the engine timed properly and then set your idle with the tps. Adjusting it with the set screw is just opening or closing the throttlebody a little.
