Hey fellow Mustang owners, I just got my parents to trade in my 2002 Mustang V6 Premium Coupe for a 2003 Mustang GT Premium Coupe. I actually picked the car up on Ford's 100th Anniversary on June 16, 2003. It is dark shadow grey and goes great with the Bullit style wheels that are standard on GT Premium. So far all I have done to this car is put in a KandN air filter due to money shortages, as I am only 17 years old. I got the GT in automatic because since my parents paid for it, it was their call on the tranny. My brother got a 2001 Camaro SS and although its slightly faster and I like it a lot, I love the looks of the Mustang GT more. I wanted to know what cheap or free mods I can do to this car that are $100 or less. If you can give me ideas and prices of the mod's I would appreciate it. Also I have seen stock 99-03 GT 0-60 automatic times anywhere from 6.2 to 5.5 and I really would like to know what the true automatic transmission 0-60 time is. I am guessing 5.8, but could be totally wrong. Please let me know. Thanks a lot.

Congrats man and welcome. As for the less then 100 buck mods, the only thing I can think of right off is to take off the air silencer, but Im SURE this will bring up another keep it on take it off debate :D. If you take it to the track , taking out your right front headlight is a cheap ram air trick. Other then that man, if you find anything that really helps performance for around 100 bucks you email me and let me know :D. Save up and buy you a good catback exhaust and some 4.10s for that auto. You can check out Mustangworld.com I thing it is, they have a good bit of cosmetic do it yourself things like moving the rear spoiler back some and adding leg room, simple stuff like that. The 0-60 times, sorry man Im no help there. Best of luck

thanks a lot man. i took out the silencer too when i did the air filter change. what kind of mustang do you have?

'03 Performance Red GT 5 Speed. A few mods, nothing major at the moment. Current and future mods in sig. Hopefully will have the gears in a couple of weeks or so. I want to get my starting problem taken care of first though. Taking it into Crossroads Ford tomorrrow to get a new Idle Air Bypass valve put in. They cleaned it last time and it helped, Im hoping just getting a new one will solve this problem once and for all.

You need mods under $100 ?
Your screwed dude -
You need a lot to really get going.
4.10 gears and install $400
get a stall converter -$$? not cheap either. This is a high dollar hobby. Mo fast = Mo money !
If I didn't have a big car payment form my 00 Stang it would be way, way out of control !
Tell your folks to hook you up. Give 'em this look - :(
BTW - welcome to the club.

68&00 GT can you tell me what the 0-60 time of my auto. tran GT is? all i have done to it is the k and n and the silencer removed...my brother has an SS and he put this resistor on his IAT (intake air temperature sensor) and it made his car faster. cost like 20 cents too! thanks man.

First off welcome to the new world. Second, just about everybody here and everywhere don't go by 0-60 times. Most go buy 1/4 mile and 60 ft. times at the track.

The first advice I would give you is go get a couple of dyno pulls in while your still stock. This way you know what your starting point is. Only costs about $50-$60.

LS1's can get away with that stuff. It's common knowledge that LS1's respond better to mods. No such luck w/ our 4.6's. Nothing significant anyway. I'll bet your Stang will run approx 14.8 in the quarter mile. Yeah forget the whole 0-60 mph thing. :nice:

yeah thanks a lot. the 60 mph acceleration time is just something i wonder about. since ford never actually has their own performance times. i know though, that in the world of muscle car performance the real number is in the quarter mile times....the 0to60 time is just the common question that all my friends keep asking...but the quarter miletime i know is what really matters in the world of drag racing, etc.

Ok here's how to spend your first $100. Like the above said go get a dyno for a baseline RWHP #, and take it to the track, and 1/4 mile race it for an evening. Fun as hell, and your friends and family can watch you all night. You'll have plenty of money for hot dogs, and drinks while you're there. Maybe even a breaking in the new Stang celebration dinner on the way home. :nice:
Tell your folks it the safest way for you to see what it'll do. And it really is. After you loose your 1/4 mile racing virginity, you'll have good starting / baseline information to get your new addiction going ! :nice: Do your self a favor though avoid racing your bro. In front of people anyway - :D

What he said. Practice makes perfect and better 1/4 times at the track. Track being the key word. Definately the safest. I've seen Mustangs beat Camaros and TA's. Being a good driver is key.

Nearly all of the "free" or "cheap" mods for the 4.6 are appearance or aesthetic mods.

K&N=$50
accelerator pedal mod=$.25
Remove,trim,or leave air silencer=$0
these are just a few that I did back when I first got my GT also check HERE for some decent how-to's and free to low cost mods. I know it sucks not having allot of money to do some of the things that you want but the simple fact is that good mods cost money, the good thing is that you'll have plenty of time to save up if you take good care of your GT. BTW if your trying to see how much it's going to take to hang with or beat your brother's SS you're probably going to need about a grand minimum, Nitrous will probably be the cheapest way to get there. Good luck and have fun, drive safe too. :flag: Ken

I always wanted to know 0-60 times for a Mustang. I never go by 1/4 mile and only care about 0-60, I'm sure there are lot's out there like me too.

When it comes to track work, I can't think of anything more boring than 1/4 mile runs. I like formula one style with lots of corners, straights etc. That's where you learn to drive !

I would love to know what a stock 02 GT Vert 5spd does 0-60 in.

If you know please let me know ....

If you are into serious hard driving, esp track work (not 1/4 mile stuff), change the front brake pads to a higher temp one (Hawk make some killer pads). Then change your stock brake fluid every 6 months - it's actually good stuff, but it absorbs moisture quickly and will start to fade when this happens - or go all out and get the best Castrol SRF.

These are fairly cheaps mods, and will reduce brake fade by 30%. You don't need to upgrade discs/calipers. The ford twin piston ones are pretty good. They take a hell of a beating with these couple of mods.

Remember, on a formula one style track, (and hard-street-drivin' :nono: ) it's all about brakes... :)

Under $100.00 performance mod
I wish one existed, I've spent about $6000.00 on my car in 3 years and I guess the only mod under $100.00 was when Flashbang756 gave me a ProM 87mm MAF! I did get some good deals from GIJoe. Seems like everytime he upgrades I purchase his used parts (Aluminum DS/Strut bar/Tokico's/Steeda LCA's) and he gave me some offset rack bushings!

My suggestion is to save for some 3.73's (you may be able to buy some cheap from someone upgrading to 4.10's).

Exhaust-Magnaflow is the best bang for the buck!

Intake Plenum (I like the Dragon).

Valve body for tranny.

Drag Radials.

Lots of practice, I have a friend that ran 13.66 with weld in Magnaflows and a K & N--In a 2002 AUTO GT! :nice:
