Hey gets new proud owner of a 81 notch back I have a build sheet of the car.. I was hoping someone with more knowledge of a engine build can check it out for me and kinda tell me what they think of it? Good parts bad parts if I should change anything? Thanks for looking everyone hope I don't catch too much hell for posting this. Bought the car with 1500 miles on all new parts.. Full tube chassis QA1 coil overs ladder bars the whole 9 yards.. And a brand new 347 stroker engine. The motor is what I'm most curious about to be honest

Looks like a nice car. The engine build list seems ok. I might have gone with different heads and cam but that's doesn't mean what you have is bad. There has been a lot of work done to your car and the list of upgrades is pretty healthy! Nice ride!

Awesome that's a bit of a relief and yes I agree about the cam I do plan on replacing it this winter with a different one but hearing what I got isn't bad is what I was looking to hear

Yeah I'm not too good either lol.. All I know its fast and fun to drive.. And the line lock works good haha. Its weird though.. And I'm hoping some e can give me some onsite.. It's got great power off the line.. But as soon as I hit 4k rpm it snaps your right back in the seat and it's got a ton more power.. I'm not sure if its because of the carb...? It has a holley 680 I'm pretty stumped on it

The X cam you have wakes up powerwise around 2800 RPM and feels like it pulls like a freight train until the end of time ( almost like it was starving for fuel or sheds a whole bunch of weight at a magical rpm).

The custom cam means someone makes you a one off camshaft that optimizes your engine combo. Unlike the X, B, E , comp cams which is an off the shelf good that does the job but is not specific to your set up.

Off the shelf cam = Chef Boyardee Spaghetti
Good price, decent taste, resembles spaghetti, and readily available at any super markter.

Custom cam = is like going an ole Italian grandmother who wants to make you a special spaghetti , that you like with certain meats and cheeses, but the catch is you have to buy the ingredients and wait for her to make it.

A little more expensive, amazing taste, and takes a little longer to get.

There are guys out there who make custom ground cams. They make the most out of your combo.

Looks like me and black1987 posted at the same time. I like his reply better.....now I want Italian food!

The guys who make these cams can do it remotely...meaning you call them, discuss the specs, goals for the car. Then they make it and ship it to you.

@TOOLOW91 might know of a good guy.

Ed Curtis of FlowTech Induction is in Rhode Island. I have a similar 347 to yours except with AFR 185 heads and a custom cam by Ed. On pump gas with only 26* of timing it put down 378 HP and 438 FT-LBS at the wheels...I've got another 30-50 HP in it if I run race fuel and bump up the timing. Highly recommend the custom cam.

The amazing thing is how driveable it is - it starts and idles great, and my wife can drive it without a problem...she was scared to death of it at first though LOL

If you like the performance of the engine and it's brand new, why change anything? I'd drive it for awhile and fix whatever issues might not have shown themselves. Or, upgrade areas that need it.

Performer RPM heads are good - custom cam will make the most of them

You guys are the best thanks for all the insight and opinions. Did notice a small coolant leak today out of the water pump housing ( I'm hoping ) but hasn't over heated. Should I be checking all the bolts as I run it with it being a new engine? Just making sure everything is snug and what not? Manifold bolts I take bolts etc..? This is the newest motor I've ever had just don't wanna have it out on me cuz lack of maintence with a new engine

retorque the intake following the proper torque sequence (google it) and I would definitely snug up the water pump, timing cover, and header bolts...header bolts especially like to work loose on a new motor
