New Project...Day # ??? I Forgot!

I think this is about the 7th full day of working on the car (more than 6 hours at a time). Here are 2 pics..one with and one w/o flash.

We found a GREAT new place for the MSD BOX:

Here's what we got done:

Most all the harnesses.
Upper Intake with 3/8" phenolic spacer on.
Vortech Discharge tube
Radiator and fan
Throttle cable connect
H-pipe connect
Drive shaft connect
O2 sensors on
Wide band 02 sensor on
Mount MSD box
Starter on
Some other small stuff.


OBSTACLES: with harness relocate, there were lots of wires to lengthen. WE used heat shrink and Leaded solder for the connections and wrapped everything we could in wire loom and 3m super 33 electric tape. We decided to go with black loom instead of the faux chrome stuff.
Had a #@#9*@ time getting the front left bolt on the intake...couldnt figure out why. Turns out that the front phenolic spacer hole did not quite line up...had to be bored out a little to open up and make room for bolt.

I have a few questions that We need to try to find out before Saturday's Tentative fire up day. PLEASE CHECK THE TECH SECTION FOR SOME QUESTIONS!!

Question for you though... are you not planning to drive your car in the rain? I ask because of where you mounted the MSD. I know the inner fender doesn't cover that area and it will be exposed to water and road grime. Its a cool location, but I'd be a little leery of placing it there as that's a pretty harsh environment in there.

Paul...reply to my text when you get it so I know it got through.

I will not "plan" on driving the car in the rain, especially with all the power and going to put DR's on the back. However, in S FL, it can rain at any time. That area where the box is is recessed several inches, and all the wires are loomed in immediately after exiting box. Doesnt mean it's ok to hose it down, but it does seam pretty safe there in the event of a shower or so while Im driving. Thanks for the heads up.!!

Lookin Good! Another thing about the box location, make sure that at full lock the wheel doesn't make contact. I flipped my TFI module to the inside of the fenderwell and the tire would hit and pull the harness out of the module.

That area the box is in is recessed back there is a sheet metal on the left and right of it. If you think of the strut tower from the inside of the hood, how it is recessed inward.....it is in the hollow part under that

THANKS...there wont be too much more that will actually be seen in the engine bay itself when it's done, except the polished rad. cover and the polished UPR hood supports. There will be some pics of some other things. THe exterior will look like crap when Im done because of removing the body kit. The interior hopefully will get a complete makeover.

WAS planning on it, but still have some wiring issues (lengthening) which although not difficult is very time consuming. I would say it's only 50/50 that we will start it, and even if we do, we're looking at no sooner than 4 PM. The interior is still pretty messy from all the wiring and clutch pedal change, and still have battery relocate to do. If not Sat, the NEXT "project day" for sure.

Im sure you have researched it already, but I just wanted to throw my personal experience out there for you. When doing the battery relocation to the trunk, its worth while to run the ground cable all the way back up to the engine mount! I originally just grounded mine to the frame under the trunk, but started randomly popping a couple fuses. Same two fuese constantly actually. I ran a cable from my ground on the frame under the trunk, up to the engine mount ground location (and replaced the factory ground strap with 1/0 cable as well) and it solved my fuse blowing problem. If you run into any problems, feel free to ask.

WE were just planning on the ground in the trunk as mentioned. Im not too sure why what you described would happen if the ground in the back is also good, but I will sure keep that in mind If we have any problems. My fuse box is going in the fenderwell, so I dont want any problems with fuses.
