looking at a 66 coupe was a 200 6cyl, one of the prior owners swapped to a 289 v8 and that is the only thing besides the front springs they swapped.. it needs to have both rear quarters raplaced and both frame rails cut and stubbed in new, new trunk pan.. and im wondering before i get it if anyone here can give me any idea how big of a pain this will be.. the owner already has new full rear quarters for it, and i will have to buy everything else..

Hi,
The size of the pain, is relative your skill sets and tools on_hand. When I did my resto, much of it included what you mention and more. A "professional" shop wanted $15K. I purchased $2k in appropriate tools and did the work myself, however, it did take 5-6 years. In the end, I only sub'ed out, the finish paint, CVT. top install, and the installing my "real" leather seating upholstery.
So, it's how deep are your pockets vs. skill sets and tools

+1 ...you can't have 6cyl syspension with an 8cyl setup = not safe! And just upgraded springs is not adequate enough.

????? What type of project are you after? What are your goals? ie; '66 6cyl. coupe, w/ a full restoration, or Weekend Toy with Muscle, etc.? Ask yourself if this car is everything you were looking for, before this one presented itself! There's lots of Mustangs around, so If this isn't the right one just be patient and wait for the right deal to present itself!

agree with couped up. in the middle of a 68 resto swapping out i6 for a 5.0. looking back i would definately wait for a v8 project to come along. This is my first resto and it is a bit overwhelming to have to replace almost everything underneath. a work in progress and a lot of learning curve since i am no mr. goodwrench.
