Well, I ordered a short block from reputable builder, making sure he knew that I needed an early 302 block so i would have the clutch ball threaded boss on the left rear of the block. I got my engine, checked that first, and its a late model 5.0 block without the threaded boss. I can make a bracket to support the ball for the Z-bar, but if someone already makes one, I would rather just purchase one so I can get this engine built up. Anyone know if a bracket is available to fit a late model 302 block in a 66 to allow use of the original mechanical Z-bar clutch linkage.
Sometimes one wonders if people listen and read your requirements when ordering parts, and that they are more interested in selling the part than they are in getting you what you want. I do not want to truck freight this engine back. It looks great except for the missing clutch ball boss. Any help appreciated.

thanks rbohm, but NPD only has replacement parts for the mechanical clutch linkage when using an early model block, and I need something to support the inboard clutch ball on a late model block to which the Z bar normally slides over. This late model block does not have the boss nor threads to screw in the clutch ball. NPD and MU have all the replacement parts, but I need an adapter to locate a clutch ball on the side of this latemodel block. This clutch ball is the inboard support for the Z-bar.
Anyone know if someone makes an adapter bracket for the Z-bar to late model block?

But a lot of $$$ for that... an easy DIY!
